Designed With Canadians in Mind: The 2014 Prius v

Hybrid crossover combines fuel efficiency, comfort, advanced technology and plenty of space

(TORONTO – October 24, 2013) The 2014 Prius v features a surprising amount of interior space and Hybrid Synergy Drive technology – meaning busy Canadian families have room for everything while enjoying fuel efficiency. With its iconic styling, the Prius v is the Prius that delivers more.

“The 2014 Prius v is available in four well-equipped trim levels and offers 50 per cent more interior space than the original Prius liftback while delivering outstanding environmental performance and efficiency,” noted Larry Hutchinson, Vice President at Toyota Canada Inc. “It’s no wonder the ‘little v’ stands for ‘big versatility’.”

Prius v owners enjoy advanced acceleration, braking and ride comfort – plus terrific fuel efficiency and low emissions – thanks to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. The most proven hybrid system on the planet – employed in more than five million vehicles sold around the world – the Hybrid Synergy Drive is specially adapted to each model.

In the Prius v, the hybrid system is built around a highly efficient Atkinson Cycle 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, a high-torque electric motor, a high-capacity storage battery and a sophisticated power management system. This combination delivers 134 net system horsepower and seamlessly shifts between gas engine, electric motor or a combination of the two to maximize power and efficiency at every speed, under any driving condition.

Coupled to a continuously variable transmission, the result is impressive torque for smooth and confident acceleration through a large speed range, remarkable fuel efficiency of 4.5 L / 100 KM city/highway combined, and tailpipe emissions that are a fraction of those from a conventional crossover.

Inside, the Prius v seats five adults in comfort, plus lots of room for cargo with the 60/40 split rear seat folded.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive also enables many features unique to hybrids, from the added power and efficiency of regenerative braking to four driver-selectable driving options (Normal, Power and ECO plus Electric Vehicle mode for short distances) to suit any style and driving condition.

Hybrid powered comfort, convenience and style features include front seat automatic in-cabin temperature control system, an ECO Drive monitor and more. Additional standard features include: a six-speaker, 6.1” display audio system; Bluetooth connectivity for personal electronics; steering wheel-mounted controls for HVAC and audio systems; power door locks with driver touch-sensitive driver door handle lock/unlock feature; back-up camera; the Toyota Smart Key System with Push Button Start; power windows with auto up/down function on all windows; tilting/telescoping steering column; plenty of thoughtful in-cabin and cargo area storage systems; map lamps; 16” aluminum alloy wheels with locks; LED tail lamps; and more.

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so every 2014 Toyota Prius v features seven airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, driver knee, front seat mounted side, and front and rear head/side curtain) plus front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters, anchor points for child seats, child protector rear door locks, a direct tire pressure monitoring system and an electric vehicle proximity notification system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2014 Prius v is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations.

The 2014 Toyota Prius v may be enhanced with a choice of three upgrade packages:
  • The Luxury Package adds: synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel and seat surfaces; heated front seats; Integrated XM Satellite Radio, display audio with navigation system; touch-sensitive front passenger door handle and rear hatch lock/unlock feature; electro-chromatic rear view mirror; and driver and front passenger footwell lamps.
  • The Touring Package includes all features in the Luxury Package, then enhances the Prius v with: larger, 17” aluminum alloy wheels; a resin panoramic sunroof; LED headlamps with automatic headlamp and headlamp leveling systems; headlamp washers; and fog lamps.
