New standard equipment, upgraded options packages highlight 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser

The rough’n’ready mid-size SUV inspired by the legendary FJ40 Landcruiser

(TORONTO, ON – September 10, 2012) Own a piece of the legend – Toyota’s FJ Cruiser traces its roots back 40 years to the FJ40 Landcruiser, which set new standards for off-road durability and capability. New for 2013, every FJ Cruiser includes an auto-dimming rear view mirror with integrated monitor and back-up camera, while upgraded options packages include integrated garage door openers and more.

“The FJ Cruiser has the power and grunt to tame any terrain,” noted Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director, Toyota Canada Inc. “Choose an FJ Cruiser with manual or automatic transmission, then enhance it with a choice of options packages – and know that you’re ready for any adventure.”

The 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser features an impressive 4.0 Litre V6 that delivers a peak 260 horsepower and up to 271 lb-ft of torque. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, Sequential Multiport Electronic Fuel Injection, Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence, Acoustic Control Induction System and other systems maximize power and efficiency, while the battery, starter, alternator and heater are all heavy-duty models designed for durability and reliable performance.

All drivetrains feature a rear differential lock and two-speed transfer case for maximum control on trails and other unpaved surfaces. Meantime, special underbody plates protect the engine, fuel tank and transfer case from off-road hazards.

The FJ Cruiser’s suspension system can withstand punishing offroad adventures, while providing a surprisingly comfortable ride on the open road. Up front, a double-wishbone system features shock absorbers, coil springs and a stabilizer bar. At the back, a four-link suspension with shocks and springs is enhanced with a stabilizer bar and lateral track bar.

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so the FJ Cruiser features six airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, front seat mounted side, and roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain) plus Active Front Headrests with Whiplash Protection, anchor points for child seats, and a direct tire pressure monitoring system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2013 FJ Cruiser is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Active Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations.

All 2013 Toyota FJ Cruisers come with a full suite of comfort, convenience and style features, including: a six-speaker audio system with USB and audio input jacks, Bluetooth capability and integrated XM Satellite Radio; air conditioning; seats clad in water-repellant fabric; a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat; power door locks and power windows with driver’s side auto-down function; an easy-clean rubber floor; high-visibility black on white meters; dual vanity mirrors; 12-volt accessory power outlet; plenty of in-cabin storage including cup holders and water bottle holders, door map pockets, cargo-area tie-down rings, shopping bag hooks, coat hooks, and cargo-area side storage compartments; 17” aluminum alloy wheels with locks; dual folding exterior mirrors; variable intermittent wipers with rear window wiper/washer; and more.
