Connected Vehicle Technology Adds Layer of Safety for Drivers

Toronto, June 3, 2020 – Having a safe and reliable vehicle is critical for many Canadians who need to get to work every day or make essential trips on a regular basis.

As more drivers get behind the wheel, peace of mind begins with well-maintained and high quality-vehicles with advanced safety systems.

Features like Safety Connect – a service available in Connected Services by Toyota – can help cover the unexpected curves that life throws at you.

“The safety of our customers has always been paramount for our company,” said Martin Gilbert, Director of Corporate Strategy and Innovation, Toyota Canada Inc. “Safety Connect is one way we are trying to help keep Canadians safe on the road and offer our customers  an extra sense of comfort when they are behind the wheel.”

Safety Connect – available on a subscription basis on select 2018 and newer Toyota vehicles – provides peace of mind with English- and French-speaking Safety Connect agents available 24/7 to assist drivers who encounter trouble on the road. As long as the vehicle is travelling in range of cellular and GPS satellite signal reception, customers can use the following features:

Toyota’s Safety Connect features:

  • Enhanced Roadside Assistance: If the driver runs into an issue with their vehicle, they can simply press their vehicle’s “SOS” button to request roadside assistance. Even if the driver cannot describe where they are, the agent can automatically retrieve the vehicle’s coordinates and other information, so a tow truck or other service vehicle can be directed to the vehicle’s exact location.
  • Automatic Collision Notification: If the vehicle’s onboard sensors detect that a collision has occurred or an airbag has been deployed, an agent will immediately contact the vehicle. If there is no response, the agent will automatically send emergency services to the vehicle’s location.
  • SOS Button: For any emergency, including health-related concerns, the vehicle’s “SOS” button can be used to get in contact with an agent who can send help. If requested, the agent can also call an emergency contact.

The Safety Connect feature in Toyota’s vehicles complements its other built-in safety technologies. Depending on the model year and make, these may include features like Toyota Safety Sense, Star Safety System, back-up camera, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert or rear cross traffic brake, bird’s eye view monitor, and more.

Toyota customers are encouraged to review the owner’s manual for their vehicles or consult the Toyota Canada website at www.toyota.ca for more information. To learn more about Safety Connect, visit Toyota.ca/Connected.
