(TORONTO, Ontario) May 1, 2019 – As gas prices continue to rise, sales of electrified vehicles are also surging. In fact, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) reported that electrified vehicles accounted for a record 16.7% of its total sales in April.
Led by the popularity of the all-new made-in-Canada Toyota RAV4 hybrid (2,112 units sold, up 246.8%), the momentum from TCI’s best-ever month for electrified vehicle sales (3,876 units sold, up 82%) led the company to a 6.1% overall sales increase in April.
TCI’s Toyota Division reported sales of 20,579 units in April, up 5.6%, while the Lexus luxury division reported its best April ever, with sales of 2,655 units, up 10.3%.
With recent launches further expanding its line-up of fuel-efficient, low emission options, TCI now offers an electrified vehicle for every Canadian driver: the RAV4 hybrid, Corolla hybrid, Prius AWD, Prius Prime plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle, and Lexus UX hybrid are all available now.
TCI sees best truck sales month ever
TCI also reported its best-ever month for truck sales in April, with 14,884 units sold, up 11.4% from April 2018. This was led by a record April for both the made-in-Canada Toyota RAV4 (6,247 units, up 23.9%) and the soon-to-be-made-in-Canada Lexus NX (765 units, up 3%).
Today’s news follows the company’s recent announcement that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) will begin producing the top-selling Lexus NX and NX hybrid starting in early 2022. This production will be in addition to the RAV4, RAV4 hybrid, Lexus RX, and Lexus RX hybrid currently being produced in Canada.
