TORONTO, ON – October 21, 2019 – Go further. Do more. Get out there – in the 2020 Toyota RAV4. Toyota’s most popular model in Canada adds a new face to the line-up for 2020, with the RAV4 TRD Off-Road – a rugged trail-buster. The TRD Off-Road joins an impressive selection of RAV4 and self-charging RAV4 Hybrid models, making it easy to find the perfect partner for adventure – in town or off road.

“Toyota invented a brand-new vehicle segment when it first introduced the RAV4, and we’ve made it more fun and more stylish with every new generation,” noted Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “The TRD Off-Road model introduces new capability to RAV4 – and joins a line-up that gives Canadians many reasons to love this compact SUV.”

Built on the revolutionary Toyota New Global Architecture platform (TNGA), the RAV4 brings a new level of energy to the compact SUV segment with its powerful stance and chiseled appearance. Classic, sporty and trail models exhibit unique styling cues – but those looks are more than skin deep: compared to previous generations, this RAV4 has a longer wheelbase and wider track for a stable, confident drive, while short overhangs and high ground clearance help it to tackle almost any terrain.

Inside, rugged becomes refined. RAV4’s cabin is set off by its spacious feel, premium materials, harmonious layout, and accommodating features. As with the body styling, interiors convey the sporty, rugged, or premium style associated with unique models. All RAV4’s deliver versatile seating and storage: the 60/40 split folding rear seats are ready to accommodate everything for a weekend of fun. When adventure requires a lot of gear, the Trail and TRD Off-Road models include a standard towing package with a 1,588 kg (3,500 lb) towing rating.

Every RAV4 is impressively equipped with technologies that help simplify everyday life – starting with Connected Services by Toyota. Select models feature Service Connect and Safety Connect, while some trim levels include enhancements such as Remote Connect or embedded navigation. And every RAV4 is compatible with both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

Under the hood, the RAV4 family offers a choice of powertrains:

  • Gas-powered RAV4 models are built around a 2.5L four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and offered in a choice of front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. AWD models are equipped with a multi-terrain select system.
  • RAV4 Hybrid models feature the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive – the world’s most popular and proven self-charging gas-electric hybrid powertrain. This super-efficient system combines a 2.5L Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine, high-torque electric motor/generators, a continuously variable transmission and other features to deliver advanced power with impressive torque through all speeds, plus remarkable fuel efficiency and low emissions. All RAV4 Hybrid models feature the added confidence of all-wheel-drive (AWD).

Safety is also front and centre, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 – an advanced bundle of technologies that enhance driver capabilities. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, the Blind Spot Monitor System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, eight airbags, a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system.
