Unique “Corolla Search” contest concludes with winners picking up their prizes just in time for the holidays

TORONTO, ON., (December 20, 2013) – This was no ordinary contest.

Ninety-five all-new 2014 Toyota Corollas were tagged and placed throughout Canada’s largest cities over a six-week period. Canadians were then challenged to find the cars.

Using their smartphones as game controllers, contestants were able to take advantage of online and offline tips that led them to the location of the vehicles. Once they found a car, they scanned a tag on the vehicle to collect valuable points to increase their chance of winning. The Corollas were moved around quite often, so there was plenty of opportunity to rack up the points. And to get even more points, participants could take a test drive of a Corolla, or visit a local Toyota dealer and scan some of the activated promotional material.

To add even more spice, weekly draws were held for Tim Hortons and Target gift cards, as well as tablet computers. Then, when the contest came to a close, the points were tallied and the grand prizes determined through random draw.

Five participants have now been rewarded for their efforts with each winning a brand new 2014 Corolla. This week, the winners will be visiting Toyota dealerships close to where they live to pick up their prizes, just in time for the holidays.

Of the five winners, one lives in Quebec and the other four are from the Greater Toronto Area, including two from the same household.

The GTA winners, and the dealership they’ll be visiting this week to pick up their Corollas, are:

  • Pawan Jain and Varun Jain (North York) – will go to Toyota On The Park to claim their prizes (one Corolla each);

  • Evelyn Gutierrez (Etobicoke) – will go to Mississauga Toyota to claim her prize; and,

  • Susan McEwen (Mississauga) – will go to Oakville Toyota to claim her prize.

Under the theme, “Corolla: Like you’ve never seen it before,” Toyota Canada’s promotion of the Corolla has featured a number of innovative experiential marketing initiatives, including pop-up test drives at high-traffic locations to proactively bring the Corolla to Canadians so they could discover how “trying is believing.” Most recently, another interactive game was rolled out in conjunction with Cineplex Odeon. During the month of December, moviegoers are able to create their own commercial for the 2014 Corolla.

This newest Corolla introduces expressive new styling, a class-up interior and powerful new technologies, as it remains loyal to Corolla’s DNA – to provide quality, dependable, reliable and fuel-efficient transportation plus tremendous overall value to millions of drivers.

Every Corolla sold in Canada is built at our award-winning plant in Cambridge, Ontario.
