TORONTO, ON – JULY 27, 2020 – This July, marks twenty years of hybrid technology in Canada and the 2021 Prius Prime makes a statement with an electrified performance that sets the stage for the future. The Toyota Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid vehicle that delivers impressive efficiency and performance in equal measure, wrapped in distinctive styling and enhanced with a long list of advanced technology features. Toyota offers Prius Prime in a choice of models and trim levels designed to fit a range of tastes and budgets, all enhanced with additional equipment for the 2021 model year.
“The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime combines superb electrified performance with impressive technology,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “The Prius Prime is Toyota’s most advanced passenger car that is fun to drive and a perfect companion for your next road trip with a total driving range of up to 1,035 km. It delivers everything you need today in a vehicle that’s ready for the world of tomorrow.”
Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture – a revolutionary platform for vehicle design and engineering – Prius Prime boasts a low centre of gravity for heightened performance and handling, fused with a striking style designed to elevate its aerodynamic performance.
Designed to maximize power and efficiency, Prius Prime delivers all the benefits of an electric vehicle with the flexibility of the most popular and proven gasoline-electric hybrid systems on the planet. The powertrain features a combination of high-torque electric motor/generator, continuously variable transmission, a 1.8-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and high capacity storage battery. For most daily driving, Prius Prime will operate in pure electric vehicle (EV) mode for up to 40 km on a single charge with no compromises. EV mode produces zero tailpipe emissions and impressive all-electric performance, including confident acceleration and a top speed of up to 135 km/h. For longer trips, Prius Prime eliminates range anxiety by seamlessly switching to full self-charging hybrid mode. The result is a vehicle with fuel efficiency rating of 1.8Le / 100 km (city/highway/EV combined) and a total driving range of up to 1,035 km. Prius Prime also enjoys one of the fastest charging times in the industry, with a full charge taking as little as 130 minutes using a charging station (or 5.5 hours on a regular household outlet).
All 2021 Toyota Prius Prime models express outstanding style. Unique designs for both headlights and taillights make Prius Prime instantly recognizable, coming or going, while the dual wave rear glass is both beautiful and functional – helping to smooth air flow over the back of the vehicle. Inside, Prius Prime’s modern yet welcoming cabin features spacious seating for five adults. The driver-centric console puts instrumentation and controls within natural sightlines and comfortable reach, while soft touch materials and modern black satin chrome detailing make every drive an elegant experience. The back seat has generous room for three passengers, while splitting 60/40 for maximum flexibility when cargo-carrying is required. Foldable armrests make long distance travel even more comfortable.
Prius Prime’s long list of standard safety systems includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 – a bundle of active safety technologies that help extend the driver’s awareness and ability to avoid collisions or mitigate their effect. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, and eight air bags.
