Record Electrified Vehicle Sales Power Toyota Canada Inc. to Strong 2021

Lexus Division Sets All-Time Sales Record

 

TORONTO, Ontario – January 5, 2022 – 2021 was a record year for sales of electrified vehicles for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI), with 62,460 units sold, representing 27.7% of TCI’s total 2021 vehicle sales.

Both Toyota and Lexus divisions ended the year with record sales of electrified vehicles. Toyota Division sold 55,886 electrified vehicles, up 84.4% from 2020. Lexus division sold 6,574 electrified vehicles, up 26.5% from 2020.

With the upcoming launches of the battery-electric bZ4X, next-generation Mirai FCEV and all-new Toyota Tundra Hybrid, as well as strong showings for the RAV4 Prime and Prius Prime plug-in hybrids, and the only-available-in-hybrid-electric Sienna and Venza, this electrified vehicle sales momentum is expected to continue in 2022.

TCI December 2021 sales accounted for 12,001 units sold, down 12.2% from December 2020. This brought TCI’s 2021 total to 225,215 units sold, 17.7% higher than total 2020 sales and only 5% shy of 2019, TCI’s all-time record year.

In December 2021, Toyota division sold 10,570 units, down 11.4% from December 2020, for a total of 199,308 units sold during 2021, up 16.8% from 2020.

In December 2021, Lexus division sold 1,431 units, down 17.7% from December 2020, en route to an all-time annual record of 25,907 units sold during 2021, up 24.4% from 2020.

Numerous nameplates registered record overall yearly sales in 2021, including:

  • Toyota Corolla Hybrid (4,522 units, up 82.9%)
  • Toyota Highlander Gas (14,614 units, up 49.7%)
  • Toyota Highlander Hybrid (5,271 units, up 35.1%)
  • Toyota 4Runner (8,293 units, up 21.9%)
  • Toyota Mirai (128 units, up 509.5%)
  • Lexus UX Hybrid (3,282 units, up 32%)
  • Lexus RX Hybrid (1,805 units, up 63.1%)
