Refined, comfortable and versatile: the 2013 Toyota Highlander

Mid-size crossover comes in three models with choice of four-cylinder or V6 engines

(TORONTO, ON – September 13, 2012) It’s good to be in the 2013 Toyota Highlander – the sophisticated crossover that combines the capacity of an SUV with the road manners of a sedan.

“All Highlander models offer room for seven adults – or room for two plus more than 95 cubic feet of cargo space – so Highlander is a perfect choice for active lifestyles,” said Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director, Toyota Canada Inc. “But unlike traditional SUVs, the Highlander is styled with crisp, clean lines that emphasize intelligence, rather than toughness. Highlander’s dynamic, modern personality and performance is as welcome during a night in the city as it is for a trip to cottage country.”

The 2013 Toyota Highlander is available with a choice of two engines:
  • The Highlander FWD I4 features a surprisingly powerful 2.7 liter 4-cylinder that is also remarkably efficient. This engine generates a peak 187 horsepower and up to 186 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic ECT transmission and front wheel drive to deliver a combined city/highway fuel efficiency of 9.0 L / 100 KM.
  • The Highlander 4WD V6 and Highlander 4WD V6 Limited are equipped with a 3.5 liter V6 that delivers up to 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. With full time four-wheel-drive and a five-speed automatic ECT transmission, these models enjoy a combined city/highway fuel efficiency of 10.9 L / 100 KM.
Both engines feature Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, Sequential Multiport Electronic Fuel Injection and other systems to maximize power and minimize emissions. Meantime, a heavy duty battery, starter, alternator and heater deliver reliability in all temperature and weather conditions.

Both transmissions feature overdrive, sequential shift mode, a gate-type shifter, lock up torque converter and dedicated transmission cooler.

Highlander drivers enjoy confidence and comfort, thanks to a refined suspension featuring specially tuned anti-vibration sub-frames, Macpherson gas struts, shock absorbers, coil springs, and stabilizer bars.

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so every Highlander features seven airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, driver knee, front seat mounted side, and roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain) plus Active Front Headrests with Whiplash Protection, anchor points for child seats, child protector rear door locks, and a direct tire pressure monitoring system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2013 Highlander is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations. Additional handling and control technologies on V6-equipped models include Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control.

Every 2013 Toyota Highlander is equipped with comfort, convenience and style features, including: air conditioning; front row bucket seats; a 40/20/40 split reclining second row seat with remove centre stow seat/console; a 50/50 split third row bench seat with remote release in the cargo area; high-visibility Optitron instrumentation gauges, a tachometer, dual trip odometer and digital clock; cruise control; dual vanity mirrors plus a conversation mirror; power door locks; power windows with auto up/down function on driver’s window; rear privacy glass; tilting/telescoping steering column; plenty of thoughtful, in-cabin storage; reading lamps; a 12v accessory power outlet and retained accessory power; dual power-adjustable, heated exterior mirrors; roof rails; front and rear splash guards; a spoiler with integrated LED stop lamp; variable intermittent windshield wipers plus a rear window wiper/washer; the automatic headlamp system; fog lamps; and more.
