Strong start to 2017 for Toyota Canada Inc. with January sales record


  • Hybrid vehicle sales record for third consecutive month
  • Record sales of Lexus vehicles for seventh straight month

 

TORONTO, ON., February 1, 2017 – Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) has started 2017 the same way it ended 2016 – with a sales record.  TCI set a new January sales record with 12,176 vehicles sold, up 1.1% compared to last year.

A January record was also set for Toyota brand vehicles, with 10,863 units sold, up 0.9% compared to last year.

 

Strong hybrid and truck sales continuing in the New Year

Sales of hybrid vehicles by TCI continued to gain momentum to start 2017, with a January record of 1,071 vehicles sold, up 2.3% compared to last year. It’s the company’s third consecutive monthly record for hybrid sales and includes a January record for sales of Toyota brand hybrids, at 972 units, up 6.7% compared to 2016.   

TCI trucks also continue a strong sales trend into 2017 with a record month, at 8,039 units, up 4.2% compared to 2016. Led by the RAV4, Toyota-brand truck sales set a record January with 7,013 units sold, up 2.9% compared to 2016. 

 

Another record month for Lexus

January also marked the seventh straight monthly record for the sales of Lexus luxury vehicles, with 1,313 units sold, up 3.1% compared to 2016. It was a particularly strong month for Lexus SUV sales, with a January record of 1,026 sold, up 14%.

 

January sales highlights for specific vehicles

  • Toyota RAV4 sales of 2,693 units, up 8.5% (new January record), including 388 hybrid units, up 20.9% (new January record)
  • Toyota Corolla sales of 2,527 units, up 16.2%
  • Toyota Highlander sales of 1,074 units, up 33.3% (new January record)
  • Lexus RX sales of 554 units, up 5.7% (new January record)
  • Toyota 4Runner sales of 519 units, up 11.6%
  • Lexus NX sales of 356 units, up 16.3%
