Toyota Announces Noncompliance of Certain Windshield Wipers

Toronto, ON, (October 10, 2013) - Toyota Canada Inc., will conduct a voluntary safety campaign involving approximately 625 certain 2013 MY Avalon, 2013-14 MY Camry, and certain 2014 MY Corolla vehicles.

Certain contacts on the switch terminal could have been manufactured to the incorrect specification. If the contacts are not within specification, there is a possibility that a short between the battery and ground contacts could occur if the wiper switch is moved from OFF to Temporary Operation (MIST) position. A short can cause the windshield wipers to become inoperative. An inoperative windshield wiping system does not meet certain frequency and wiped area requirements.

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealership for replacement of the wiper switch assembly with a new one, at no cost to vehicle owners.

Information is available to customers at www.toyota.ca/recall or by calling the Toyota Customer Interaction Centre at 1-888-TOYOTA-8 (1-888-869-6828).
