Toyota Canada Inc. Hybrid and Truck Sales Continue to Power Forward


• Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) hybrid vehicle sales up 45.1% for a new September record
• TCI truck sales continue to climb, setting a monthly best for the 21st straight month

 

TORONTO, ON, October 3, 2016 – Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) has reported another record month for hybrid vehicle and truck sales. Overall TCI sales were down slightly (0.5%) compared to last year, with a total of 19,233 Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles sold in September. The Toyota division (including Scion) logged sales of 17,056 units, down 0.7% compared to 2015, while the Lexus division saw total sales of 2,177 units, up 0.4 % compared to last year. 

 

Hybrid sales up 45.1%

TCI hybrid vehicle sales set a new September record, up 45.1% year-over-year, with a total of 1,574 hybrid units sold. With the RAV4 hybrid leading the way, Toyota brand hybrid sales were up 48.0% compared to last year, with 1,388 vehicles sold.  Hybrid vehicles represented 8.2% of TCI’s total sales for the month.

 

Truck sales reach 21st straight monthly record

TCI’s September truck sales set a new record for the 21st straight month, with a total of 11,412 trucks sold, up 5.3% compared to last year. Led by RAV4 and Highlander, it was the best ever September for Toyota brand trucks, with 9,903 units sold, up 5.7% compared to 2015. Led by the RX, Lexus brand trucks also topped the previous September high with 1,509 vehicles sold, up 3.0% compared to last year.  

 

Additional September 2016 highlights:

  • Toyota RAV4, with 4,789 units sold (up 15.0%, new September record)
  • Toyota Corolla, with 4,280 units sold (including first month’s sales of Corolla iM)
  • Toyota Highlander sales, with 1,080 units sold (up 16.8%, new September record)
  • Lexus RX, with 796 units sold (up 35.6%)
