TORONTO, ON – April 1, 2011 – Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today reported sales of 17,669 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs in March 2011, down 13.2% from a year earlier.
As a result, 2011 sales were down 10.7%, but represented an 11.1% increase over the same period in 2009. Several records were recorded across all 3 TCI brands as both Toyota trucks and Scion achieved best month ever sales, while Lexus attained a best March ever.
Toyota sales in March 2011
Toyota sold 15,948 cars, trucks and SUVs in March, down 13.7% from the previous year. Highlights for Toyota in March 2011 (versus March 2010) include:
- Best month ever for Toyota Trucks: up 12% to 7,759;
- Best month ever for the Canadian-built RAV4 compact SUV: up 15.7% to 2,900;
- Best March ever for Venza: up 7% to 1,291
- Highlander Hybrid mid-size hybrid SUV: up 92.9%;
- Sienna minivan: up 72.7%;
- 4Runner mid-size SUV: up 61.6%;
- Highlander mid-size SUV: up 45.3%;
- Avalon full-size sedan: up 44.4%.
Lexus sales in March 2011
Lexus sold 1,412 luxury cars and SUVs in March, up 8.4% from the previous year for the best March ever. This included sales of 221 models of the World’s First Luxury Hybrid Sportback, the all-new Lexus CT 200h, a very strong showing in the first month on the market for this new gateway into the Lexus brand. Additional highlights for Lexus in March 2011 (versus March 2010) include:
- Lexus luxury car sales: up 18.2%;
- Lexus luxury SUV sales: up 0.9%;
- GS 450h luxury hybrid sport performance sedan: up 200%;
- LX 570 full-size luxury SUV: up 35.7%;
- IS series luxury sport sedan: up 18.8%;
- RX 350 mid-size luxury SUV: up 14.2%.
Scion sales in March 2011
Scion Canada sold 309 vehicles in March, the best month ever for the brand. This included the best month ever for two of Scion’s three models – the Scion xD and Scion tC – as Scion continues to attract young urban drivers to its unique vehicle and lifestyle brand. In April, 38 new Scion Dealerships will open for business in urban centres across the country making Scion a true “coast-to-coast” brand and joining the 46 Dealerships already in operation in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Hope for Japan
Following the earthquake and tsunami in March, TCI is grateful for the leadership provided by Canadian Toyota, Lexus and Scion dealers in raising funds to support relief efforts.
