In reference to coverage of US reports involving Toyota vehicles, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) would like to remind consumers that the circumstances surrounding recalls in Canada and the US are different. 

Over the last few months TCI has been diligent in communicating the specific details of recalls affecting Canadian customers via the media and direct communication as well as working with dealers to provide the necessary support in processing vehicle repairs. 

To avoid misleading Canadian consumers, we'd like to address some of the points that are being picked up by Canadian media outlets that are not relevant to the situation in Canada:
  • The Prius and Tundra recall campaigns reported in Canadian media are not new - they were previously announced in late 2009
  • In Canada, we have issued all letters to affected customers and repairs are underway
