Toyota innovation in the “AutoConnect” spotlight at Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto

Toyota’s advanced safety technologies of today and tomorrow being showcased

 

Toronto, ON., (February 14, 2014) – Advanced connectivity and safety technologies will be receiving extra attention at this year’s Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS), thanks to the creation of the new AutoConnect Showcase.

 

“Toyota will be front and centre at AutoConnect, celebrating its world-renowned advanced active safety research technologies that set the standard for the industry,” said Seiji Ichii, President and CEO, Toyota Canada Inc.

 

Toyota has a number of vehicles currently available in the market that are equipped with specialized advanced safety technologies, including the Lexus GS 350 that is on display. A luxury Lexus vehicle that is well-equipped and well-priced, the Lexus GS 350 includes Drive Assist technologies such as Driver Monitoring, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor.

 

At the AutoConnect booth, visitors will see significant advances Toyota has pioneered on sensors and automated control systems to observe, process and respond to a vehicle’s surroundings. These include GPS, stereo cameras, radar and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) laser tracking, and other vehicle systems that can scan the movement of objects around it, identify a green light from a red light, or measure the trajectory of the car on the road.

 

Guests will gain an appreciation for how Toyota is focused on developing systems capable of enhancing the driver’s perception of his or her environment, assisting in the decision-making process, and improving overall driving skills. For example, a video can be viewed that explains Toyota’s work in collaborative adaptive cruise control, which will drive forward automotive communication technologies, wireless network control and eventually autonomous vehicles.

 

CIAS visitors can see the AutoConnect Showcase on the 800 Level of the South Building at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC). The main Toyota and Lexus booths are also located on the 800 level. The auto show runs February 14-23.
