TORONTO, Ontario – MARCH 17, 2021 –Toyota Canada Inc. is conducting a safety recall involving certain RAV4 vehicles produced between June 2018 and September 2018. Approximately 5,300 vehicles are involved in this recall.
The involved vehicles are equipped with 17-inch wheels that are assembled with a specific type of tirefrom a specific manufacturer. The tire manufacturer determined that, certain tires from a certain mold were produced with a cure time that significantly exceeded the specified cure. One of these tires was supplied to Toyota and was installed on one of the involved vehicles. As a result, this tire may experience a carcass break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to a partial or full tread and/or belt loss. Sudden air loss, or partial or full tread or belt loss could cause a loss of control of the vehicle, resulting in an increased risk of a crash.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will inspect DOT and mold numbers and replace affected tires at no cost to customers.
Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by mid-May.
