TOYOTA TOPS IN EFFICIENCY AT NORTH AMERICAN GREEN RALLY

Prius, Prius PHV teams finish first in fuel efficiency rankings at 4th annual Rallye Énergie Alternative, a 464 km rally through Québec’s Upper Laurentians

[TORONTO, ONTARIO] – Three Toyota teams proved it’s possible to go farther on less fuel, as they recorded a perfect 1-2-3 finish in the fuel efficiency rankings at the unique “Rallye Énergie Alternative” (“Alternative Energy Rally”), the only road rally of its kind in North America held specifically for advanced alternative energy vehicles.

Toyota’s Prius Plug-In Hybrid vehicle – piloted by the team of Maxime Dubois and Pierre-Oliver Orvisais Martie – recorded the best fuel performance* from the 20-competitor field, using just 18.951 litres (combined with 8.8 KWH) litres of fuel to cover the 464-kilometre course for the 4th annual Alternative Energy Rally. A 2010 Toyota Prius, with driver Luck Mervil and navigator Laurence-Fanny L’Estage, captured second place in efficiency with a fuel consumption of just 21.930  litres, while Raymond Durand and Jean Caro, the defending champions of the Alternative Energy Cup, consumed just 23.864 litres of fuel in their 2010 Toyota Prius for a third place showing (*based on consumption index).

“Green rallies aren’t just for fun, they’re also important showcases for demonstrating the impressive fuel efficiency and emissions performance of advanced technology vehicles such as the Toyota Prius and Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid,” said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director of Toyota Canada Inc. “Canadian drivers are looking to manage their fuel costs and minimize their environmental footprint, and this month’s rally shows that Toyota hybrids, such as the Prius, can help do just that with no compromise to performance, comfort or safety. We congratulate our teams on their impressive finish at the top of the fuel efficiency podium.”

The 2010 Rallye Énergie Alternative, sanctioned by the Fédération internationale de l’automobile (FIA) as part of the Alternative Energy Cup, took place between Montréal and Mont-Tremblant, Québec, October 1-3, 2010.
