Exceptional performance and fuel efficiency for active modern Canadian families

(TORONTO, ON – November 19th, 2012) It’s the Prius, with even more: More room for active Canadian families looking for an advanced, efficient crossover that fits their lifestyle and budget. With class-leading interior space, advanced performance and iconic Prius styling, the 2013 Toyota Prius v is the most versatile member of the four-vehicle Prius Family – featuring exceptional fuel efficiency while delivering maximum space for people and cargo.
“Toyota listened to Canadian families, who loved the Prius but wanted an option with even more versatility for their on-the-go lifestyles,” said Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director at Toyota Canada Inc. “The Toyota Prius v answers that need with 50 per cent more interior space than the original Prius liftback, plus all the comfort, convenience, technology and safety one expects from the world’s most popular, most recognizable hybrid family. It’s the crossover without compromise, and with four trim levels – all with attractive pricing – there’s never been a better time to get behind the wheel of a Toyota Prius v.”

The Prius v delivers advanced acceleration, braking and ride comfort – plus terrific fuel efficiency and low emissions – thanks to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. The most proven hybrid system on the planet, the Hybrid Synergy Drive is specially adopted to each model. In the 2013 Toyota Prius v, the hybrid system is built around a highly efficient Atkinson Cycle 1.8L 4-cylinder engine with a lightweight aluminum alloy block, a high-torque electric motor, high-capacity storage battery and sophisticated power management system. This combination delivers 134 net system horsepower and seamlessly shifts between gas engine, electric motor or a combination of the two to maximize power and efficiency at every speed, under any driving condition. Coupled to a continuously variable transmission, the result is impressive torque for smooth and confident acceleration through a large speed range, remarkable fuel efficiency of 4.5 L / 100 KM city/highway combined, and tailpipe emissions that are a fraction of those from a conventional crossover.

Inside, the Prius v seats five adults in comfort, plus lots of room for cargo with the 60/40 split rear seat folded.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive also enables many features unique to hybrids, from the added power and efficiency of regenerative braking to four driver-selectable driving options (Normal, Power and ECO plus Electric Vehicle mode for short distances) to suit any style and driving condition. Hybrid powered comfort, convenience and style features include front seat automatic in-cabin temperature control system, an ECO Drive monitor and more. Additional standard features include a six-speaker, 6.1” display audio system; Bluetooth connectivity for personal electronics; steering wheel-mounted controls for HVAC and audio systems; power door locks with touch-sensitive driver door handle lock/unlock feature; back-up camera; the Toyota Smart Key System with Push Button Start; power windows with auto up/down function on all windows; tilting/telescoping steering column; plenty of thoughtful in-cabin and cargo area storage systems including hidden storage under the cargo floor, upper and lower glove box, and in-door integrated bottle holders; map lamps; 16” aluminum alloy wheels with locks; LED tail lamps; and more.

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so every 2013 Toyota Prius v features seven airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, driver knee, front seat mounted side, and front and rear head/side curtain) plus front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters, anchor points for child seats, child protector rear door locks, a direct tire pressure monitoring system and an electric vehicle proximity notification system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2013 Prius v is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations.

The 2013 Toyota Prius v starts at an MSRP of just $27,425. The Prius v is also available with a choice of three upgrade packages:
  • The Luxury Package starts at $30,410 MSRP, adding synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel and seat surfaces, heated front seats, Integrated XM Satellite Radio, display audio with navigation system, and more.
