Power and performance

Canadian drivers in the market for a minivan demand the ideal combination of performance and efficiency. That’s why all 2009 Toyota Sienna models feature Toyota’s proven 3.5L V6 that delivers up to 266 horsepower and up to 245 lb-ft of torque. This is mated to Toyota’s popular five-speed automatic ECT transmission. The resulting combination delivers the smooth acceleration, driving comfort and fuel economy of a passenger car, plus the power to make full use of the Sienna’s generous and flexible people and cargo hauling capabilities. All Sienna models feature a 1,587 KG (3,500 LB) towing rating.

Handling and control

All 2009 Toyota Sienna models feature a suspension system designed with comfort and driveability in mind. The independent front suspension employs MacPherson struts and a stabilizer bar to minimize roll for excellent steering response, while the torsion beam rear suspension with gas shock absorbers contributes to the Sienna’s car-like ride.

All Sienna models are further enhanced with Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control to deliver driving confidence and comfort.

All 2009 Toyota Sienna models ride on all-season tires. Front wheel drive models come with a temporary spare tire. All wheel drive models ride on run-flat tires for additional security. Other benefits include improved storage capability and weight savings due to the elimination of the spare tire.

All 2009 Sienna models feature a 60/40 split third row seat. Both sections are easy to fold flat, and the third row can be stowed level with the cargo area floor to create a generous space for luggage or camping gear, sports equipment, strollers, groceries, home and garden furniture… and just about everything else that’s part of a busy family lifestyle. With 2^nd row seats removed and 3^rd row seats stowed, the Sienna can hold up to 4.22 cubic meters (148.92 cubic feet) of cargo.

Seven-passenger Sienna models feature captain’s chairs in the second row, which can be folded and tumbled separately. They can be positioned with an aisle in the middle, or as a partial bench on the left side, or removed all together. On models with a centre console box, this handy storage unit may be quickly and easily repositioned between the front and second row seats as desired.

Eight-passenger Sienna models feature a highly flexible 35/30/35 split bench style seat in the second row. This can be moved closer to the front seats to keep a child within easy reach of the front seats, may be folded to be used as a tray table, and is also removable.

Safety

All Sienna models are designed with occupant safety in mind. Standard safety systems include dual stage driver and front passenger airbags, front seat mounted side airbags, and front and rear head/side curtain airbags. Three-point lap and shoulder seatbelts are fitted in all passenger positions, and include adjustable “B” pillar shoulder belt anchors and middle seat adjustable seat belt anchors, as well as pre-tensioners and force limiters for the front seating positions. Younger occupants are protected with anchor points for child-restraint seats. All models are also equipped with an engine immobilizer and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Made for Mobility

Through Toyota’s partnership with Bruno Independent Living Aids, customers can retrofit their Sienna minivans with Bruno’s Lift-Up™ Seat. This can be done via a Bruno dealer immediately after a customer takes delivery of a Sienna from a Toyota dealer. The Lift-Up™ Seat - exclusive to the Toyota Sienna minivan - is a fully-powered swivelling and lowering seat with hand-held pendant control and can be installed in the mid-right passenger position. In operation, the seat turns to the right, powers out of the vehicle, and lowers to the user’s desired level. The Lift-Up™ Seat utilizes a factory-installed Toyota seat, making it look and feel the same as the other seats in the Sienna. Customers who order a new Sienna and want this mobility option should contact a Bruno authorized dealer to arrange installation. A list of Canadian Bruno dealers is available online www.bruno.com.

Canadians can also order the Sienna Rampvan through their local Canadian authorized Braun dealers. The Sienna Rampvan features a lowered floor and removable front driver and passenger seats to enable those with special mobility needs to ride up front, or drive, the vehicle. It also features a power sliding door, a kneeling system to lower the rear of the vehicle, and a ramp that automatically extends and retracts. These features combine to make it easy for those in wheelchairs to enter or leave the vehicle. Both the Rampvan and the Lift-Up™ Seat qualify for the Toyota Canada Mobility Program, which provides a reimbursement of up to $1,000 of the cost to the vehicle owner for aftermarket adaptive equipment for drivers and/or passengers, when installed on any eligible Toyota vehicle.

Vehicle Stability Control

(All models)

Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an active safety system that automatically helps to control a vehicle when it starts to slide – for example, when trying to turn at too high a speed. VSC compares driver braking and steering commands to the vehicle’s actual performance then activates individual brakes as needed and adjusts the throttle setting to help maintain stability and keep the vehicle on course.

Traction Control

(All models)

Toyota’s Traction Control (TRAC) system helps the vehicle maintain traction when accelerating in slippery conditions. It also engages when the available grip differs from one side of the vehicle to the other, such as when two wheels are on a gravel or grass verge. When drive wheels begin to slip, TRAC automatically adjusts engine power to keep the wheels from losing traction.

Antilock Braking System

(All models)

Toyota’s Antilock Braking System (ABS) uses sensors to monitor speed, traction, vehicle load and the driver’s applied brake force. The ABS then controls brake applications to minimize wheel lock-up, reducing the chance of the vehicle skidding. The result is shorter stopping distances on wet, gravely, sandy or other surfaces where traction is questionable.

Brake Assist

Toyota’s Brake Assist (BA) is a system designed to assist the driver during emergency braking by supplementing the braking power applied if the driver has not pushed hard enough on the pedal in an emergency braking situation. It works in conjunction with ABS to minimize lock-up during emergency situations.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution

(All models)

Toyota’s Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) system minimizes stopping distances by maximizing the braking power applied to those wheels that have the best grip. This system also automatically adjusts the fore/aft brake balance according to vehicle load, and the right/left brake balance if brakes are applied during cornering.

Run-Flat tires provide additional security should a tire failure occur. The vehicle can, under certain conditions, be driven up to 160km at speeds not exceeding 90km/h in order to reach a safe destination.
