Authentically Rugged Yet Also Refined: The 2018 Toyota 4Runner

The go-anywhere mid-size SUV is ready for all Canadian adventures

TORONTO, ONTARIO, September 3, 2017 –It’s real. It’s rugged. And its’ ready for anything. It’s the 2018 Toyota 4Runner – the authentic body-on-frame mid-size SUV that combines go-anywhere confidence and performance with comfort and amenities designed to delight.

“The 4Runner represents all the best Toyota engineering, developed over many decades of building trucks designed to conquer the most challenging terrain and weather conditions on the planet,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Even as many companies abandon the true body-on-frame truck market, the 4Runner remains – ready for any Canadian adventure.”

The 2018 4Runner features heavy-duty construction for no-nonsense offroad performance – and this capability is reflected in the powerful exterior design. The prominent grille, chiseled lines and powerful stance are enhanced with numerous standard features, including a power moon roof, rear spoiler, roof rails, running boards, 17” alloy wheels, dual power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors with integrated signal lamps, fog lamps, and more.

Inside, 4Runner seats up to seven adults (depending on model) in spacious comfort, while the 40/20/40 split second row seats fold out of the way to accommodate 2.5 cubic meters (89.7 cubic feet) of cargo. Canadians will love the driver-focussed cabin with multi-information display, trip computer, fuel economy meter, ECO drive monitor and other instruments and controls thoughfully laid out. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob adds a touch of refinement, while the power adjustable front row seats are heated for comfort on cold winter mornings.

Go-anywhere capability starts with power – and the 2018 4Runner delivers plenty of it thanks to a 4.0L V6 featuring dual variable valve timing with intelligence, sequential multiport electronic fuel injection, and a stainless steel exhaust system. This engine generates 270 peak horsepower and up to 278 lb-ft of torque. An engine oil cooler plus heavy duty battery, starter, alternator and heater mean reliability is built-in. This is mated to a five-speed sequential shift mode automatic super ECT transmission with overdrive, lockup torque converter and transmission cooler, which delivers power to the pavement – or the trail – through Toyota’s on-demand, one-touch 4WD system. Additional performance features include Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control.

And when adventure requires a trailer, the 2018 4Runner offers up a 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) towing rating, enhanced with a trailer sway control system, a tow hitch, and 4+7 pin trailer wiring harness as standard gear on all models.

The 4Runner’s many standard safety systems include the Toyota Star Safety System, eight air bags, a back-up camera, direct tire pressure monitoring system, and anti-theft system.
