Delta Hotels and Resorts Touring Canada to Raise $1 million for Local Charities

One car, six employees and 34 communities in 74 days!

June 1, 2010 – Victoria – Delta Hotels and Resorts today kicks off its second-annual Delta Community Cruiser Tour, which will see six Delta employees travel across the country in a 2010 Toyota Prius, raising money and volunteering for local charities along the way. The Tour will support Delta’s goal of raising $1 million and donating 10,000 volunteer hours to community charities during 2010.

The team will start their journey in Victoria, BC on June 1st and will reach 34 communities in 10 provinces over a 74-day period, finishing up in St. John’s, NL on August 13th. The Cruiser car – a 2010 Toyota Prius, the ultimate in fuel efficiency – will travel a total of 12,000 kilometres across the country.

“We have set ourselves the ambitious goal of raising $1 million and donating 10,000 volunteer hours to community organizations from coast-to-coast in 2010,” said Hank Stackhouse, President and CEO, Delta Hotels and Resorts. “The huge success we had with last year’s Cruiser tour showed us that we can really make a difference one dollar and one hour at a time.”

The tour will be led by Suzanne Lalonde, who works at the Delta Calgary Airport Hotel. She will travel the full distance across the country and meet up with other Delta employees in their hometowns to learn about what Delta is doing in local communities. The Delta Community Cruiser Tour team will work alongside the many charitable organizations and community groups supported by local Delta properties at each stop along the way.

Whether it is building a home for a family in need with Habitat for Humanity, hosting a food drive, planning a community car wash or a golf tournament fundraiser, the Delta Community Cruiser Tour demonstrates Delta’s commitment to building stronger communities.

The Cruiser car demonstrates Delta’s commitment to the environment.  By choosing to partner with Toyota, Delta employees will be traveling in the 2010 Prius, the most fuel-efficient vehicle using 100 fewer litres of fuel and generating 240kgs less CO2 than any other hybrid traveling the same cross country distance.

“Toyota Canada Inc. is a proud partner of the second-annual Delta Community Cruiser Tour by providing Delta Hotels and Resorts employees the means to travel across the country in the 2010 Toyota Prius – the most fuel efficient hybrid vehicle on the road today,” said Sandy Di Felice, Director, External Affairs, Toyota Canada Inc.  “As a proud Canadian corporate citizen, Toyota is committed to environmental stewardship and seeks to partner with like-minded organizations such as Delta Hotels and Resorts.  With a combined fuel consumption rating of 3.8L/100km, Delta Community Cruiser Tour participants will see first-hand our commitment to sustainable mobility as the 2010 Prius offers value, safety, fuel efficiency and comfort on their cross-country road trip adventure.”
