Imagining the Vehicles of Our Children’s Wildest Dreams: Toyota Inspires Passion and Creativity with the 2017 Toyota Dream Car Art Contest

Top Canadian entries could win a trip to the global awards ceremony in Japan

TORONTO, ONTARIO, October 3, 2016 – If your child loves art, is inspired by imagination, and has a vision for the future of mobility, Toyota Canada wants to see their wildest ideas.

Canadian youth up to 15 years of age are encouraged to submit artistic creations of their “dream car” for a chance to win one of nine 3D printing pens and an entry in the global contest, in which 30 finalists from around the world will win a trip to Japan for the final awards ceremony.

Over the past four years, five Canadian entries have been chosen as global finalists, including two Canadian youth who won bronze medals last year. Since Canada joined the contest in 2012, more than three million entries have been submitted from over 80 countries.

“We’re continuously inspired by the imagination behind the artwork of Canadian youth who demonstrate the innovation, creativity and insight that will shape the future of transportation and technology,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of Toyota Canada Inc.

Contest submissions are broken into three age categories: under eight, eight to 11, and 12 to 15. Entries can be submitted beginning today, October 3, 2016, until February 3, 2017.

One winner and two runners-up in each age category will be selected by a panel of judges. Each of the nine winners will receive the printing pens, and will also be entered as Canada’s representatives in the global contest.

From the global entries, 10 finalists from each of the three age categories will be announced next August. 30 finalists, along with their parents/guardians, will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in Japan on an all-expenses-paid trip, courtesy of Toyota Motor Corporation.

Submissions can be created with any type of medium, such as paint, markers or crayons, but cannot be created digitally. All artwork must be made on paper no smaller than letter (8.27 X 11.69 inches) and no larger than tabloid (11-12 X 16.5-18 inches) size paper and must include a coloured background. The contest is open to all residents of Canada.
