Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Corolla and Matrix vehicles

TORONTO, Ontario (August 28, 2019) – Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2003-2004 Model Year Corolla and 2005-2008 Model Year Matrix vehicles in Canada. Approximately 55,399 vehicles are involved in this recall.

The front passenger airbag in the subject vehicles was repaired under a prior recall.  If one of these airbags deploys, there is a possibility that it could be damaged.  Such damage could cause the airbag to not properly inflate, and this could increase the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash.

This recall is about a new and different issue where the airbag may not deploy as designed in certain vehicles that received a remedy as part of previous Takata recalls.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace the front passenger airbag assembly with an improved one at no cost to customers.

Known owners of all involved vehicles will be notified by the end of October via first class mail.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is subject to change over time. For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting Toyota.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
