Versatile, efficient vehicles drive Toyota Canada Inc. sales in March


Best ever March for Toyota Trucks, and Canadian-made RAV4, Matrix
 
(TORONTO) – Canadians shopping for vehicles that combine maximum utility and versatility with tremendous fuel efficiency and emissions performance turned to Toyota and Lexus in March. Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today reported strong sales of 19,792 Toyota and Lexus cars, trucks and SUVs – up 24.5% from March 2009. This included 18,489 Toyota models (up 27.2%) and 1,303 Lexus luxury models (down 4.4%).
“We sincerely thank our customers for their continued confidence in our Toyota and Lexus brands,” said Yoichi Tomihara, President of Toyota Canada Inc. “We are pleased that Canadians continue to turn to Toyota Canada, and embrace our full line up and our Canadian-made vehicles.”
 
Even with strong January sales in 2009, in the first quarter of 2010, Toyota Canada sales of 41,684 vehicles outpaced the same period in 2009, up 14.8%.
 
Highlights for Toyota in March 2010 (versus March 2009):
  • Toyota sells more Canadian-built vehicles in Canada than any other manufacturer, with 50% of sales coming from these models: made-in-Canada Toyota RAV4, up 27.3% and 2,388 Toyota Matrix, up 70.6% (best ever March for both models)
  • Toyota Trucks up 39.4%, at 6,927 (best ever March)
  • 2,043 Toyota Camry, up 95.9%
  • 1,207 Toyota Venza, up 76.5% (best ever March)
  • 968 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, up 73.8% (best ever March)
  • 760 Toyota Tundra 4x4, up 41.0%
  • 341 Toyota Prius, up 130.4%
  • 177 Toyota 4Runner, up 247.1%

Highlights for Lexus in March 2010 (versus March 2009):
  • 130 Lexus RX 450h (up 182.6%) (best ever March)
  • 76 Lexus GX 460 (up 533.3%)
