Accelerator Pedal Fix Update from Toyota Canada

TORONTO, Ontario - February 3, 2010 - As committed on Monday, February 1, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) confirmed that stainless steel reinforcement bars that will be used to modify the pedals in the eight affected Toyota vehicles identified in the January 21 recall notice have been shipped to all 243 Toyota dealers starting today.

Toyota's solution for current owners is simple, effective and quick to deploy.  A precision-cut steel bar will be installed into the accelerator pedal assembly that will reduce the surface tension between the friction shoe and the adjoining surface.  With this reinforcement in place, the excess friction that can cause the pedal to stick is eliminated.

"It's our commitment to ensure we're moving quickly to address our customers’ needs," said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director, TCI.
