Bolstered By First Month of Prius Prime Sales, Toyota Hybrids Have Best Month Ever

Strong hybrid and truck sales lead to record June sales for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI), up 6.5% from 2016

TORONTO, ONTARIO -  July 4, 2017 – Bolstered by the Canadian debut of the all-new Prius Prime, Toyota had its best hybrid sales month ever, with 2,205 units sold, up 7.5% compared to 2016.

 

It was also a record June for combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid sales, with 2,363 units sold, up 7.2% compared to last year.

 

Along with record truck sales, the hybrid growth led TCI to its best June ever, with 23,436 units sold overall, up 6.5% compared to last year.  The Toyota division (including Scion) sold a total of 21,062 vehicles, up 4%, and the Lexus luxury division reported a 12th consecutive monthly sales record, with 2,374 units sold, up 35.5% compared to June 2016.

 

Prius Prime’s introduction to the Quebec market boosts overall hybrid sales

When TCI introduced the Prius to the Canadian market in 2000, they sold 225 units across the country in the first year.  Fast forward to June 2017 and hybrid technology is selling at a whole new pace, with 144 Prius Prime units sold in one province alone during its first month of sales. A hybrid technology pioneer, Toyota has sold more than 10 million hybrid vehicles globally.

 

Additional June Sales Highlights

  • Corolla sales of 5,617 units, up 12.5% (made in Canada!)
  • TCI truck sales of 13,755 units, up 13.5% (new June record)
  • RAV4 sales of 5,047 units, up 0.5% (new June record – made in Canada!)
  • Highlander sales of 1,562 units, up 30.7% (new June record)
  • Tacoma 4x4 sales of 1,261 units, up 11.1% (new June record)
  • RX sales of 832 units, up 21.5% (new June record – made in Canada!)
  • NX sales of 699 units, up 68.8% (new June record)
