VANCOUVER, B.C., (March 24, 2015) – To kick off the Vancouver International Auto Show, Toyota Canada is recognized with a special “best pass rate” award for the BC AirCare Program.
From 1992 through 2014, non-exempt vehicles in the Vancouver and Fraser Valley regions needed to pass the AirCare test to obtain mandatory auto insurance. The program performed more than 17 million total inspections on about 2.9 million individual vehicles during its lifetime. Among brand names with more than 500,000 initial inspections, Toyota had the highest pass rate of approximately 92 per cent, with more than 1.5 million initial inspections. The overall industry average was just over 88 per cent. For more than 22 years, Toyota vehicles consistently performed well in AirCare testing, demonstrating the quality and the durability of Toyota products.

Toyota led the industry in powertrain innovation with the introduction of the Prius in 1997, and since then has sold over 7 million hybrids globally, including 100,000 in Canada. Toyota and Lexus offers 12 hybrid vehicles in its Canadian lineup, representing 2 out of 3 hybrid sales in Canada.

Visitors to the Vancouver International Auto Show can find examples of Toyota’s environmental innovation with the Canadian debut of its Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) Concept – the inspiration behind Toyota’s production ready fuel cell vehicle – the Toyota Mirai. Also making its first Vancouver appearance, the Toyota i-Road is a unique three-wheeler that combines the convenience of a motorcycle with the stability of a car. The vehicle explores the possibility of realizing a low-carbon society in which mobility is enhanced by technology.
The FCV and i-Road can be seen at the Toyota booth, located in Exhibit Hall C of the Vancouver Convention Centre West. The auto show runs from March 24-29.
