The 2008 Yaris 4-Door: Stylish, fun and affordable


Toyota Canada today introduced the 2008 Toyota Yaris 4-Door, a vehicle that combines style, fun and affordability to set a new standard in the highly competitive subcompact market segment.

"For 2008, we offer the Yaris 4-Door with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and a selection of trim levels to please every taste and budget."

For 2008, the Toyota Yaris 4-Door is available with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. Regardless of transmission, the Yaris 4-Door is extremely well-equipped with many standard features, meaning great value for customers. These features include:
  • An AM/FM stereo/CD system with MP3 capability and four speakers;
  • A climate control system featuring a cabin air filter and rear-seat heater ducts;
  • A 60/40 split fold-down rear seat with fold down centre arm rest
  • Dual vanity mirrors;
  • Tilt steering;
  • Useful interior storage, including a front centre console box with lid, front seat back pockets and door map pockets;
  • Dual manual remote control exterior mirrors;
  • UV glass protection;
  • A tachometer and digital clock;
  • Engine immobilizer;
  • Intermittent wipers with mist feature;
  • Reflector style halogen headlamps.

The Yaris 4-Door may be ordered with air conditioning as a stand-alone option. This snappy subcompact may also be ordered with a number of options packages.

The Convenience Package - adds a number of performance, safety, style and convenience features, including:

  • 15" all-season tires;
  • Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution;
  • Air conditioning;
  • Power windows;
  • Power door locks with keyless entry;
  • Power remote exterior mirrors;
  • Colour-matched mirrors and door handles, front and rear splash guards, blacked-out side window frames, and rear trunk chrome trim.

The Enhanced Convenience Package adds all items in the Convenience Package, plus:

  • Front seat mounted side air bags;
  • Front head/side curtain air bags.

The Yaris 4-Door may also be fitted with the Aero Package, which adds numerous style features. Options in this package include:

  • 15" all-season tires on aluminium alloy wheels with wheel locks;
  • Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution;
  • Power windows;
  • Power door locks with keyless entry;
  • Power remote exterior mirrors;
  • Colour-matched mirrors, door handles, rear spoiler, and skirt package;
  • Blacked-out side window frames, and rear trunk chrome trim;
  • Fog lamps.

The 2008 Toyota Yaris 4-Door is on sale in Canada now, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price starting at $14,695.

Fun in four cylinders
All 2008 Toyota Yaris 4-Door models are fitted with a fun and efficient 1.5 Litre four-cylinder engine featuring an aluminium alloy block, dual overhead cams, 16 valves, variable valve timing with intelligence and sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection, and an electronic throttle control system with intelligence. This compact, lightweight engine is surprisingly powerful, generating up to 106 HP @ 6,000 RPM and up to 103 lb-ft of torque @ 4,200 RPM, while qualifying the Yaris 4-Door as an emissions-friendly Tier 2, Bin 5 vehicle.

All Yaris 4-Door models are standard equipped with a five-speed manual transmission that achieves a fuel-efficiency rating of 6.9L/100km city and 5.5L/100km highway. The Yaris 4-Door may also be ordered with an available four-speed automatic super electronically controlled transmission with overdrive that is rated at 7.0L/100km city and 5.6L/100km highway.

Handling and control
Driving fun starts with handling and control, and the Yaris 4-Door delivers thanks to rack and pinion electric power steering, front wheel drive, and a suspension featuring Macpherson gas struts, coil springs and a stabilizer bar up front and a torsion-beam rear suspension with coil springs. In addition, power assisted front ventilated discs and rear drums provide plenty of stopping power, with some options packages adding Toyota's Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution.

The fun to drive Yaris 4-Door rides on P175/65R14 all season tires. Some options packages feature larger P185/60R15 all season tires.

Comfort and safety
The 2008 Yaris 4-Door holds up to five people in a surprisingly roomy interior that's also notable for its standard safety features. These include dual stage driver and front passenger airbags and three point lap and shoulder belts for all five seating positions, with front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters adjustable B pillar shoulder belt anchors. Younger passengers are kept secure with anchor points for child restraint seats and child protector rear door locks.

Peace of mind
The 2008 Yaris 4-Door is provided with Toyota's no deductible, no transfer fee, comprehensive warranty that covers the entire vehicle for three years/60,000 kilometres. Power train components are covered for five years/100,000 kilometres, major emission control components are covered for eight years/130,000 kilometres and corrosion perforation for five years with unlimited distance.

Toyota also provides 24-hour Roadside Assistance for all models. Help is just a phone call away at 1-888-TOYOTA-8. Roadside emergency services include battery boost, lockout service, fuel delivery, tire change, winching, and even towing. Optional Extra Care Protection (ECP) is also available, which includes travel planning and trip interruption assistance, vehicle rental help, lubrication maintenance, and mechanical protection of 17 major mechanical component groups for up to six years/200,000 kilometres.
