Cleaner, efficient, powerful: The 2011 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is as versatile as it is environmentally advanced. For 2011, the Highlander Hybrid adopts a new engine that delivers even more power while using less fuel. With passenger car-like handling and control, the power and versatility of a mid-size SUV with 7-passenger seating and all-wheel-drive performance, and an innovative, future-friendly power train that maximizes power and torque while minimizing fuel use and emissions, the 2011 Highlander Hybrid has it all.
 
SPECIFICATIONS
  • New for 2011 is a more powerful and fuel efficient 3.5 litre V6 engine (vs. 3.3L from 2010, enhanced electric motors and Hybrid Power Control Module with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
  • Horsepower increases to 280 (up 10hp) with 10% improvement in combined fuel economy.
TECHNOLOGIES 
  • New for 2011, the Highlander Hybrid adopts a new hybrid powertrain that adds the following technologies for added fuel efficiency and emissions performance:
    • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system reduces smog forming emissions and improves fuel consumption
    • Cooled Exhaust Heat Recovery System improves cold-weather performance for Canadian winters
  • The Highlander Hybrid uses the Atkinson Cycle and features a driver-selectable EV mode. Three motor-generators work together to power the vehicle:
    • MG1, the engine-driven generator, is a starter and can charge the battery pack or power other electric motors as needed
    • MG2 is the front-drive motor
    • MGR is a rear-mounted motor-generator that drives the rear wheels
  • All 2011 Highlander Hybrid models come standard-equipped with:
    • Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) governs all  handling technologies
    • Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
    • On Demand Electronic AWD System
