Agile, Versatile, and Advanced: The 2014 Toyota Prius c

The proven hybrid in a subcompact that’s fun to drive and perfect for life in the city

(TORONTO, ON – February 18, 2014) It’s the subcompact version of the world’s most popular and proven family of advanced, fuel-efficient and environmentally responsible hybrid vehicles. It’s also great fun to drive – getting in and out of small parking spaces and narrow lanes while taking the tightest corners with ease.

“Get behind the wheel of the Prius c and discover Toyota’s winning combination of driving fun, versatility, remarkable fuel efficiency and low emissions,” said Larry Hutchinson, Vice President at Toyota Canada Inc. “The Prius c features an impressive amount of space with room for five passengers and 17 cubic feet of cargo. Equally impressive is its long list of standard features – including advanced technology that only a Toyota hybrid can deliver.”
Canadians continue to embrace Toyota’s hybrids in record numbers, confident that Toyota’s experience – dating back to the sale of the first Prius in Canada in 2000 – has created one of the world’s most versatile and innovative line-up of low emissions, fuel efficient, advanced technology vehicles.

That experience has been engineered into every 2014 Toyota Prius c. The Prius c features a 99 net horsepower Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive built around a 1.5L Atkinson Cycle engine, high torque electric motor, efficient storage battery and sophisticated power management system, mated to a continuously variable transmission. This combination delivers a remarkable fuel efficiency of just 3.6L/100KM in urban driving (3.8L/100KM city/highway combined).

The Hybrid Synergy Drive enables many features unique to hybrids, from the efficiency of regenerative braking to four driver-selectable driving options (Normal, Power and ECO, plus Electric Vehicle mode for short distances) to suit any style and driving condition. Meanwhile, a carefully tuned suspension balances handling agility with ride comfort, which combined with Prius c’s low centre of gravity and impressive 4.8m turning radius makes driving this subcompact big fun.

The Prius c is big on safety too, with fast-acting, highly visible and ultra-reliable LED brake lamps and nine airbags for 360-degree protection. As with every Toyota since the 2011 model year, the 2014 Prius c is standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations. Other safety features include anchor points for child seats, child protector rear door locks, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
