Full-Size Value from the Authentic, Capable and Durable Mid-Size SUV: The 2014 Toyota 4Runner Starts at $37,900

Lower starting MSRP on all grades: fresh, rugged style: more standard features

(TORONTO – October 29, 2013) When adventure calls, it calls for the Toyota 4Runner – and for 2014, Toyota continues to demonstrate why it’s authentic, body-on-frame mid-size SUV delivers rugged, go-anywhere capability. The product of three decades of 4Runner engineering and a long heritage of building trucks that have conquered the most punishing weather and driving conditions on the planet, the Toyota 4Runner features a fresh design for 2014 that adds style comfort and convenience without sacrificing its legendary performance and utility.

“The 2014 4Runner is the latest example of Toyota’s commitment to Canadian drivers looking for authentic, capable body-on-frame trucks and SUVs,” said Larry Hutchinson, Vice President at Toyota Canada Inc. “We’ve maintained the blend of ruggedness, performance, comfort, safety, and style of the 2014 Toyota 4Runner, added more standard features, all at a lower suggested starting price across the models.”

As with the recently launched 2014 Tundra full-size pick-up truck, the 2014 4Runner now features styling cues distinctive to each of three available grades: SR5, Trail Edition, and Limited. SR5 and Trail Grades are more muscular, and rugged, a nod to the model’s well earned off-road reputation; While the exterior design of the Limited grade is now more aggressive, and premium overall.

Inside, the 4Runner – available in five-passenger and seven-passenger configurations – takes the mid-size SUV category to new levels of refinement. Second-row seats now slide and recline. Seven-passenger models thanks to second-row seats equipped with a one-touch walk-in function feature easier ingress and egress, and more leg-room for 3rd row passengers. Like the exterior, the refreshed interior features details and styling cues that highlight the attitude of each grade.

Every 2014 Toyota 4Runner is built around a powerful yet efficient 4.0-litre V6. Generating up to 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, this engine features systems to maximize power, torque and efficiency across its operating range. A five-speed super ECT automatic transmission with overdrive, lock-up torque converter and transmission cooler delivers confident acceleration and a fuel efficiency rating of 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway combined). With a 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) towing capability, all 4Runners are standard equipped with a tow package including heavy duty tow-hitch receiver, 4+7 pin wiring harness, trailer brake controller pre-wire, supplemental transmission cooler and transmission fluid temperature gauge.

Safety is always a priority on a Toyota, and every 4Runner features eight standard airbags, active front headrests with whiplash protection for driver and front passenger, three-point lap and shoulder belts for all seating positions, anchor points for child seats and child protector rear door locks, a direct tire pressure monitoring system, and more.

As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2014 4Runner is standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations.
