Toyota Expands Takata Airbag Safety Recalls

Toronto, Ontario – May 13, 2015 Toyota Canada Inc. announced that it is expanding its recalls involving Takata airbag inflators.

Toyota will conduct a recall to replace Takata-supplied driver front airbag inflators on approximately 14,570 Model Year 2004 and 2005 RAV4 compact sport utility vehicles.

Toyota will also expand its nationwide recall for Takata-supplied front passenger airbag inflators launched in April 2013, to include approximately an additional 3,803 Model Year 2003-2004 Tundra and 606 Model Year 2003-2004 Sequoia vehicles.

In both recalls, the airbag inflators could be susceptible to rupture when deployed in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. To date, Toyota is not aware of any injuries or fatalities caused by this condition in the newly expanded group of recalled vehicles.
