Ample power for on and off the job site
The 2008 Toyota Tundra is available with a choice of two V8 engines. Both feature Dual Overhead Cams, 32 Valves, a crank hold electronic starter control and sequential multiport electronic fuel injection. Both come equipped with an engine oil cooler, a heavy duty battery, starter, heater and alternator, and a stainless steel exhaust system. Both qualify for a Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions rating.
The first is a 4.7-litre that produces up to 276 HP @ 5,400 RPM and up to 313 lb-ft of torque @ 3,400 RPM, and features Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). This is mated to a five-speed automatic, super electronically controlled transmission with sequential multi-mode shifter, overdrive, lock-up torque converter, transmission cooler, and automatic transmission fluid warmer. Tundra 4x2 models so fitted enjoy a fuel efficiency rating of 15.5 L/100 km city and 11.7 L/100 km highway, while Tundra 4x4 models with this engine/transmission combination are rated at 16.0 L/100 km city and 12.3 L/100 km highway.
For maximum power, the Tundra may also be ordered with a brawny 5.7-litre that generates up to 381 HP @ 5,600 RPM and 401 lb-ft of torque @ 3,600 RPM, featuring Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (Dual VVT-i) on both the intake and exhaust cams. This is mated to a six-speed automatic, super electronically controlled transmission with sequential multi-mode shifter, overdrive, lock-up torque converter, transmission cooler, and automatic transmission fluid warmer. Tundra 4x2 models with this engine/transmission combination have a fuel efficiency of 15.3 L/100 km city and 10.9 L/100 km highway, while Tundra 4x4 models so fitted are rated at 16.9 L/100 km city and 11.8 L/100 km highway.
Handling and control
All 2008 Tundra full-size pick-up trucks are generously equipped with Toyota's state of the art handling and control technologies. All models benefit from rack & pinion power steering, an auto limited slip rear differential and Vehicle Stability Control.
All Tundra models enjoy the smooth ride and stability of a double-wishbone front suspension with gas shock absorbers, coil springs and stabilizer bar, plus a heavy-duty multi leaf spring rear suspension with bias-mounted shock absorbers.
Power-assisted ventilated disc brakes are mounted on all wheels, enhanced with Toyota's Antilock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist technologies.
Tundra 4x2 models also benefit from Traction Control, while Tundra 4x4 models are fitted with Active Traction Control, One-Touch 4WD, and protective plates to shield the engine and transfer case.
Comfort and safety
The 2008 Tundra provides a roomy, functional, flexible and safe interior for driver and passengers. Regular Cab models can carry up to three people. Up to five people may ride in a Tundra 4x2 Double Cab SR5 with the long cargo bed, the 4x4 Double Cab Limited Models, and the 4x2 and 4x4 Crewmax models. The 4x2 Double Cab with the standard cargo bed and all 4x4 Double Cab SR5 models may carry up to six people.
Standard safety systems include driver and front passenger airbags and front seat mounted side airbags. Regular Cab models are also fitted with front head/side curtain airbags, while Double Cab and Crewmax Tundras are fitted with roll sensing front and rear head/side curtain airbag systems.
All models are equipped with three-point lap and shoulder belts for all seating positions, including adjustable B pillar shoulder belt anchors.

Peace of mind
The 2008 Tundra is provided with Toyota's no deductible, no transfer fee, comprehensive warranty that covers the vehicle for three years/60,000 kilometres. Power train components are covered for five years/100,000 kilometres, major emission control components are covered for eight years/130,000 kilometres and corrosion perforation for five years with unlimited distance.
Toyota also provides 24-hour Roadside Assistance for all models. Help is just a phone call away at 1-888-TOYOTA-8. Roadside emergency services include battery boost, lockout service, fuel delivery, tire change, winching, and even towing. Optional Extra-Care Protection (ECP) is also available, which includes travel planning and trip interruption assistance, vehicle rental help, lubrication maintenance, and mechanical protection of 17 major mechanical component groups for up to six years/200,000 kilometres.
