Power and ruggedness: The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Legendary midsize SUV conquers any weather and terrain
(September 9, 2013 – TORONTO) The Toyota FJ Cruiser has what it takes to take you up, over, through or around virtually any obstacle that nature – or your own imagination – throws your way. Inspired by the legendary FJ40 Landcruiser, which established new benchmarks for off-road durability and capability, the 2014 FJ Cruiser combines heritage styling with state of the art off-road handling and performance.
“Whether you choose the manual or automatic transmission model, you’ll be ready for any extreme of weather or terrain in a 2014 FJ Cruiser,” said Larry Hutchinson, Vice President at Toyota Canada Inc. “Every FJ Cruiser delivers 5,000 pounds of towing capability, more than nine inches of ground clearance and the power, performance and ruggedness of the original FJ40. And with available Off-Road or Urban upgrade packages, the FJ Cruiser can be customized to tackle any adventure.”
The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser features an impressive 4.0 litre V6 that delivers a peak 260 horsepower and up to 271 lb-ft of torque. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and other systems maximize power and efficiency, while the battery, starter, alternator and heater are all heavy-duty models designed for durability and reliable performance.
All drivetrains feature a rear differential lock and two-speed transfer case for maximum control on trails and other unpaved surfaces. Meantime, special
underbody plates protect the engine, fuel tank and transfer case from off-road hazards.
The FJ Cruiser’s suspension system can withstand punishing adventures off the beaten path while providing a surprisingly comfortable ride on the open road. Up front, a double-wishbone system features shock absorbers, coil springs and a stabilizer bar. At the back, a four-link suspension with shocks and springs is enhanced with a stabilizer bar and lateral track bar.
Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so the FJ Cruiser features six airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, front seat mounted side, and roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain) plus Active Front Headrests with Whiplash Protection, anchor points for child seats, and a direct tire pressure monitoring system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2014 FJ Cruiser is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Active Traction Control and Smart Stop
Technology that work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations.
All 2014 Toyota FJ Cruisers come with a full suite of comfort, convenience and style features, including: A six-speaker audio system with USB and audio input jacks, Bluetooth capability and integrated XM Satellite Radio; air conditioning; seats clad in water-repellant fabric; a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat; power door locks and windows; an easy-clean rubber floor; high-visibility black on white meters; 12-volt accessory power outlet; plenty of in-cabin; 17” aluminum alloy wheels with locks; dual folding exterior mirrors; variable intermittent wipers with rear window wiper/washer; and more.
The 2014 FJ Cruiser is available in two models:
FJ Cruiser 6M (MSRP starting at $33,540)
The 2014 FJ Cruiser with six-speed manual transmission features full-time four-wheel-drive for maximum off-road control.
FJ Cruiser 5A (MSRP starting at $34,540)
The 2014 FJ Cruiser with five-speed automatic Super ECT features a gate-type shifter and lock-up torque converter.
