Power and ruggedness: The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Inspired by the legendary FJ40 Landcruiser, which established new benchmarks for off-road durability and capability, the 2014 FJ Cruiser combines heritage styling with state of the art off-road handling and performance.

The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser features an impressive 4.0 litre V6 that delivers a peak 260 horsepower and up to 271 lb-ft of torque. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and other systems maximize power and efficiency, while the battery, starter, alternator and heater are all heavy-duty models designed for durability and reliable performance.

 

All drivetrains feature a rear differential lock and two-speed transfer case for maximum control on trails and other unpaved surfaces. Meantime, special

underbody plates protect the engine, fuel tank and transfer case from off-road hazards.

 

The FJ Cruiser’s suspension system can withstand punishing adventures off the beaten path while providing a surprisingly comfortable ride on the open road. Up front, a double-wishbone system features shock absorbers, coil springs and a stabilizer bar. At the back, a four-link suspension with shocks and springs is enhanced with a stabilizer bar and lateral track bar.

 

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so the FJ Cruiser features six airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, front seat mounted side, and roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain) plus Active Front Headrests with Whiplash Protection, anchor points for child seats, and a direct tire pressure monitoring system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2014 FJ Cruiser is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Active Traction Control and Smart Stop

The 2014 FJ Cruiser with six-speed manual transmission features full-time four-wheel-drive for maximum off-road control.

 

The 2014 FJ Cruiser with five-speed automatic Super ECT features a gate-type shifter and lock-up torque converter. This is paired with on-demand four-wheel-drive, which boosts fuel efficiency while featuring an automatic disconnecting differential for seamless shifting between rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive.

 

Either FJ Cruiser model may be ordered with the available Off-Road Package, which adds: Bilstein shock absorbers; roof rack; passenger seat foldable armrest; rear privacy glass; cruise control; keyless entry; integrated garage door opener; floating ball-type multi-information display with compass, outside temperature gauge and inclinometer; power-adjustable exterior mirrors with image lamps; and a cargo area mat. On FJ Cruiser 5A models, this package also includes Toyota’s four-wheel crawl control system and an overhead console box.

 

The FJ Cruiser 5A may be ordered with the available Urban Package, which adds: front and rear performance dampers; a 10-speaker JBL Synthesis audio system with subwoofer; back-up sensor; running boards; leather wrapped steering wheel; colour-keyed interior trim; metallic shift knob; passenger seat foldable armrest; rear privacy glass; cruise control; keyless entry; floating ball-type multi-information display with compass, outside temperature gauge, inclinometer; power-adjustable exterior mirrors with image lamps; cargo area mat; integrated garage door opener; a 120V/400W power outlet.
