(TORONTO, ON – November 27, 2015) Balancing elegance and innovation, with a bold and athletic presence, the Toyota Avalon is the flagship that defines Toyota’s sedans. And for 2016, Toyota designers and engineers raise the bar with more refinement and style, enhanced features and technology, and improved performance.
“The Avalon has always been defined by effortless, refined elegance – and for 2016 we’ve made a long list of improvements to ensure it represents the best of Toyota design and engineering,” said Larry Hutchinson, Vice President of Toyota Canada Inc. “With Avalon, we’ve thought of everything – so Canadians can just sit back and enjoy the drive.”
The 2016 Avalon presents even more polished style: Avalon’s already aggressive front grille is emphasized with a wider, lower stance and narrower upper grille has been designed with an even more sculpted profile in mind. Head-turning details include newly designed aluminum alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, new signal lamps and tail lights, and chrome bumper accents. From its power moon roof to dual exhaust, the Avalon is a sight to behold.
The sophistication continues inside, where Toyota designers have given Avalon new, premium wood grain dash ornamentation and an upgraded instrument panel. Technology abounds with full-colour, high resolution multi-information display screens that convey key information conveniently and dynamically. Meanwhile, dual zone automatic climate control and a range of new noise-reduction efforts enhance driver and passenger comfort, while the locations of key instrumentation and controls have been intuitively adjusted to maximize ergonomics and enjoyment.
The Avalon is built around a 3.5 Litre V6 with direct ignition and acoustic control induction systems. Generating up to 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, this powerful yet efficient engine is mated to a six-speed Super Electronically Controlled Transmission with Sequential Shift Mode and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and may be operated in a choice of three driver-selectable modes (Normal, Sport and ECO), adjusting vehicle efficiency and responsiveness to suit their mood and driving style.
Front and rear suspensions are enhanced with a number of handling systems, including Vehicle Stability Control (with off switch) and Traction Control. Disc brakes are fitted with Antilock Braking System, Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution technologies to maximize their effectiveness. The Avalon also features efficient and responsive electric power steering, and rides on 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
As Toyota’s flagship sedan, the Avalon is an ambassador for quality, durability, reliability and safety. For 2016, Avalon’s already-extensive list of standard safety features – including the Star Safety System of active safety technologies – is enhanced with a new tire-specific pressure monitoring system. Other safety systems include 10 airbags, side impact beams, anti-theft system, and a backup camera.
The 2016 Avalon is available in two impressively equipped models:
