Toyota Canada Inc. Posts August Sales Gain, Led by Hybrids and Trucks

Hybrid Vehicle Sales Up 38.5%, Truck Sales Up 11.2%

TORONTO, ON, September 1, 2016 – Led by hybrids and trucks, August sales for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) were up 1.9% compared to last year, with a total of 18,631 Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles sold.  The Toyota division (including Scion) recorded sales of 16,659 units in August, up 1.8% compared to 2015, while the Lexus division recorded total sales of 1,972 units, up 2.1% compared to last year.

 

Hybrid sales up 38.5%

TCI hybrid sales set an August record, up 38.5% year-over-year, with a total of 1,685 hybrid units sold.   Led by the Toyota Prius, Toyota brand vehicles are up 51.2% compared to last year, with 1,559 vehicles sold.  Hybrid vehicles represented 9% of TCI’s total sales for the month.

 

Truck sales up 11.2%

Following a record July, TCI’s August truck sales set a new record for the 20th straight month, with a total of 11,179 trucks sold, up 11.2% compared to last year.  Led by the RAV4 and Highlander, it was an August record for Toyota brand trucks, with 9,822 units sold, up 11.5% compared to 2015.  Lexus brand trucks also set an August record with 1,357 vehicles sold, up 9.1% compared to last year.  

 

Additional August 2016 highlights:

  • Toyota RAV4, with 4,482 units sold (up 32.2%, seventh straight monthly record)
  • Toyota Highlander, with 1,149 units sold (up 34.1%, a new August record)
  • Toyota Prius, with 288 units sold (up 126.8%)
  • Lexus RX, with 720 units sold (up 18.2%)
