TORONTO, ONTARIO, October 10, 2017 – Convert “Are we there yet?” to “Let’s keep going!” with the 2018 Toyota Highlander. Available in front and all-wheel-drive models, plus hybrid-powered editions, the Toyota Highlander is the stylish and comfortable SUV with room for up to eight, and technologies and amenities to make every trip a welcome prospect.
“With the Highlander, we have combined the space and versatility of an SUV with the ride comfort and handling of a premium sedan,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Highlander is stylish and refined – well-mannered enough to be a pleasure to drive every day and ready for weekend getaways with family and friends.”
All Highlander models feature a modern exterior that’s sleek and refined, with elegant front and rear fascia designs, LED tail lamps, power-adjustable and heated exterior mirrors with integrated signal lamps, a rear spoiler, and more.
Inside, the Highlander cabin is designed to make every road trip a pleasant adventure, with room for seven or eight adults (depending on model and trim level). Front-row captain’s seats embrace the driver and navigator, while 60/40 split folding third-row seats maximize cargo space and versatility. All models are equipped with Display Audio systems featuring Bluetooth® connectivity for personal electronics, SIRI Eyes-Free, USB audio input, voice recognition, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and more. Other standard features include air conditioning, power door locks with keyless entry, cruise control, rear privacy glass, a tilting-telescoping steering column, reading lamps, 12v power outlets for personal electronics with retained accessory power, and a thoughtfully-designed cargo area with lighting, tie-downs, and secure storage compartments.
The 2018 Toyota Highlander line-up offers choice to suit every driver’s needs – all delivering plenty of performance and advanced driving dynamics.
Conventionally-powered models are built around a 295 peak horsepower 3.5L V6 engine featuring dual variable valve timing with intelligence and other technologies to maximize power and efficiency. This is paired with an eight-speed direct-shift automatic with transmission cooler, plus a heavy-duty battery, starter, alternator and heater for ultra reliable winter performance. The Toyota Highlander is offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive powertrains. All Highlanders are enhanced with Hill-start Assist Control, while all-wheel-drive models also feature the Active Torque Control System and Downhill Assist Control.
The advanced power and efficiency of the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is achieved through a 306 net system power Hybrid Synergy Drive. This features a 3.5L V6, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, powerful high-torque electric motors, storage battery and sophisticated power management system. All Highlander Hybrid models are all-wheel-drive, and enhanced with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, the Active Torque Control System and Downhill Assist Control.
Highlander is a joy to drive, thanks to its highly responsive (and efficient) electric power steering, plus a double-wishbone rear suspension with trailing arms for a smooth, comfortable ride.
Every Highlander is equipped with many standard safety systems, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense P. This bundle of active safety technologies – including the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control – enhances driver capabilities to mitigate collisions, stay in lane, and see at night. Other safety technologies standard on all 2018 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models include the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, a back-up camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
