TORONTO, ONTARIO, January 3, 2018 - Led by record hybrid, truck and Lexus sales, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) recorded its best sales year ever in 2017, with an overall annual sales growth of 3.1% and 224,547 vehicles sold.
For the 5th consecutive year, the Lexus luxury division had its best year ever, with an annual sales growth of 10% and a total of 24,765 units sold in 2017. The Toyota division reported its second best sales year ever, with 199,782 units sold, up 2.3% compared to 2016.
Record hybrid and truck sales lead the way to the record
For the 6th consecutive year, TCI reported its best year ever for truck sales, with 136,586 vehicles sold, up 6.2% compared to last year. Record 2017 truck sales were led by the Canadian-made Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX. Both vehicles recorded 2017 as their best sales year ever with RAV4 sales of 50,894 units, up 3.6% compared to 2016, and a 15.4% annual increase for RX sales, with 9,402 vehicles sold.
TCI also recorded its best year ever for hybrid sales, with 20,287 vehicles sold, up 2.5% compared to 2016. Hybrids represented 9% of TCI’s overall sales in 2017.
