Toronto, Ontario, April 3, 2018 – Climbing hybrid sales helped lead TCI to its best March ever for overall sales, with 21,040 vehicles sold, up 8.4% compared to last year.
The Toyota division reported sales of 18,954 units, up 9.7% compared to March 2017, and the Lexus luxury division recorded 2,086 vehicles sold, down 1.8% compared to last year.
With gas prices rising, more Canadians turning to hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles
With gas prices on the rise and an increasing number of options to choose from, more Canadians are turning to hybrid electric vehicles as affordable and sustainable mobility solutions. In March, TCI set a new monthly record for hybrid sales, with 2,096 units sold, up 40.6% compared to 2017.
Toyota Prius Prime – now available across Canada – helps boost overall Prius sales by 176.8%
Now available to consumers across Canada, TCI sold 500 Prius Prime plug-in hybrid electric units in March, increasing the company’s total Prius sales by 176.8%. Prius Prime offers customers the total package: futuristic styling, advanced technology and an ultra-efficient power train that lets drivers travel more than 1,000 kilometres on a single tank of gas with a full battery charge.
The shift from cars to trucks continues
Another vehicle segment that’s seen steady sales growth for TCI is the truck segment. Canadians’ shifting demand from cars to trucks and SUVs has led TCI to a March record for overall truck sales with 13,371 units sold, up 16.5% compared to 2017.
