Two All-New Toyota Electrified SUV Models Earn 2020 IIHS Safety Awards

TORONTO, ON – October 26, 2020 – Two all-new electrified Toyota SUVs have been recognized with the highest safety awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the 2021 Venza makes its return to Toyota’s product lineup after a four-year hiatus and shares the same platform as the other award winner, the 2021 RAV4 Prime, Toyota Canada’s second plug-in hybrid model.

The all-new 2021 Venza LE, along with the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime SE and XSE have earned the 2020 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) award. In addition, the 2021 Toyota Venza XLE and Limited as well as the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE with Technology Package earned the 2020 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK + (TSP+) award, thanks to their specific LED headlights. 

To earn a 2020 TOP SAFETY PICK award, a vehicle must earn a ‘good’ rating in the Institute’s six crashworthiness evaluations, ‘advanced’ or ‘superior’ ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, and must offer ‘acceptable’ or ‘good’ rated headlights on at least one trim level. For a vehicle to earn the higher-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, all the available headlights must be rated ‘good’ or ‘acceptable’.
