Record-setting electrified vehicles sales represented 44.5% of overall sales in Q2 2023
Lexus has best quarter ever, sets record for first six months of the year
Made-in-Canada vehicles leading the way for both Toyota and Lexus
TORONTO, Ontario – July 6, 2023 – Electrified vehicles again led the way for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) sales in Q2, representing 44.5% of overall sales, or 28,022 units. Both Toyota and Lexus divisions saw record electrified vehicle uptake during Q2.
Electrified vehicles represented 52.8% of overall Lexus units sold in Q2 2023, led by sales of the made-in-Canada NX Hybrid and RX Hybrid. Q2 also marked the start of sales for the brand’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Lexus RZ.
Electrified vehicles also represented 43.1% of overall Toyota brand units sold in Q2, led by quarterly sales records for the RAV4 Hybrid, and Corolla Hybrid, as well as strong sales results for the Tundra Hybrid and bZ4X BEV.
Record quarter for Lexus
Following a record Q1, Lexus had its best quarter ever during Q2, selling 8,993 units, up 28.1% from Q2 2022, and setting a record for the first six months of a sales year.
Overall, TCI sold 62,972 vehicles in Q2 2023, down 1.3% from Q2 2022. Toyota division sold 53,979 units, down 4.9% from Q2 2022.
On a monthly basis, TCI sold 21,622 vehicles in June 2023, down 6.2% from June 2022. Toyota division sold 18,703 units, down 1.6% from June 2022. Lexus division sold 2,919 units, up 49.4% from June 2022.
Made-in-Canada vehicles continue to lead the way
Toyota and Lexus vehicles assembled in Canada continued to lead the way in Q2. Sales of the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada, the Toyota RAV4, were up 14.7%, with a record Q2. Meanwhile, Lexus NX and RX sales reached record Q2 sales, including records for their respective Hybrid versions.
