TORONTO, Ontario – April 3, 2023 –Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) sold 19,662 vehicles in March 2023, up 11.8% from March 2022.
Toyota division sold 16,747 units, up 11.0% from March 2022. Lexus division had a March sales record, selling 2,915 units, up 16.6% from March 2022.
On a quarterly basis, TCI sold 44,554 vehicles during Q1, up 9.7% from Q1 2022.
Toyota division sold 37,304 units, up 5.0% from Q1 2022. Lexus division had a Q1 sales record, selling 7,250 units, up 42.3% from Q1 2022.
Strong Q1 for electrified vehicles
Electrified vehicles represented 52.2% of TCI’s overall March sales and 41.2% of overall Q1 sales. Both Toyota and Lexus divisions saw record electrified vehicle uptake for the month of March and for Q1.
Toyota division electrified vehicles represented 40.6% of overall Toyota units sold in Q1 2023, led by RAV4 Hybrid Q1 sales record, but also by Corolla Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid, as well as strong Tundra Hybrid and bZ4X Q1 sales results.
Lexus division electrified vehicles represented 44.2% of overall Lexus units sold in Q1 2023, with electrified versions of the NX and RX all reaching Q1 sales records.
Made in Canada vehicles continue to lead the way
Vehicles assembled in Canada led the charge in Q1, both for Toyota and Lexus brands. Sales of the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada in 2022, the Toyota RAV4, were up 66.9% for Q1, led by record February and March sales of the RAV4 Hybrid. Meanwhile, Lexus NX and RX sales reached record Q1 sales, including records for their respective Hybrid versions.
