TORONTO, Ontario – October 3, 2023 – Record-setting electrified vehicles sales continue to grow in September for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI), representing 47.0% of overall sales. Both Toyota and Lexus divisions reached September records for electrified vehicle uptake.
Electrified vehicles represented 45.0% of all Toyota units sold in September 2023, with record September sales for RAV4 Hybrid (up 205.9%), RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid (up 450.9%), and Corolla Hybrid (up 855.7%).
Electrified vehicles also represented 61.8% of all Lexus units sold in September 2023, with record September sales for NX Hybrid (up 26.5%), NX PHEV plug-in hybrid (up 39.6%) and RX Hybrid (up 203.9%).
A total of 5,644 Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEV, comprising of EV, PHEV and FCEV) units were among the electrified Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold during Q3, including 2,144 ZEV units in September.
Strong month of September overall
Overall, TCI sold 21,354 vehicles in September 2023, up 29.5% from September 2022.
Toyota division sold 18,776 units, up 31.0% from September 2022.
Lexus division 2,578 units, up 19.7 % from September 2022.
Impressive Q3 despite inventory challenges
Overall, TCI sold 60,943 vehicles in Q3 2023, up 20.4% from Q3 2022.
Following record first half of the year, Lexus had a strong Q3, selling 7,825 units, up 22.2% from Q3 2022. Toyota division sold 53,118 units, up 20.1% from Q3 2022.
Toyota vehicles assembled in Canada led the way
September sales of the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada, the Toyota RAV4, were up 28.5%, led by record September sales of the RAV4 Hybrid. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada -made Lexus RX and Lexus NX also saw strong September sales, both led by record sales of their respective electrified versions.
This September, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) celebrated 20 years of assembling Lexus vehicles. On September 26, 2003, TMMC became the first plant outside Japan to manufacture a Lexus vehicle.
