Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Toyota vehicles

TORONTO, Ontario – July 12, 2023 – Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2023 model year Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and Tacoma vehicles in Canada. Approximately 4,252 vehicles are involved in this recall in Canada.

In the affected vehicles, the spiral cable assembly in the steering column may lose its electrical connection on the circuit controlling the driver’s airbag. If this occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate, and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a crash. As a result, the vehicle will not comply with certain federal motor vehicle safety requirements and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the serial number of the spiral cable and, if necessary, replace it with a new cable at no cost to customers.

Toyota will notify affected owners about this issue by early September 2023.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. For the most up-to-date Safety Recall Information on Toyota and Lexus vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting Toyota.ca/recall or Lexus.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

For any additional questions, customer support is also available by calling Toyota Customer Interaction Centre at 1-888-TOYOTA-8 (1-888-869-6828) or Lexus Guest Service at 1-800-26-LEXUS (1-800-265-3987).

Amendment

October 10, 2023 - Toyota is expanding this previously announced non-compliance safety recall in Canada to include an additional approximately 2,766 2023 model year Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross hybrid, Highlander, Highlander hybrid, and Tacoma vehicles. Toyota will notify newly affected owners about this issue by early November 2023.
