TORONTO, January 7, 2025 – The Toyota Prius needs no introduction: The world’s first production hybrid vehicle changed the automotive landscape at the dawn of the 21st Century, and today it’s better than ever. With style, all-wheel drive performance, safety, and emissions excellence, the Prius is poised to take Canadians on their next adventure.
“Over the past 25 years, the Toyota Prius has evolved from the best-known example of vehicle electrification into a beautiful car that’s fun to drive and a showcase for advanced, useful, and easy-to-use technology,” noted Robert Tsang, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “As drivers seek to reduce their carbon footprints and help Canadian society embrace a more sustainable future, the Prius has become a proven and practical real-world solution that is not just easy to embrace, but rewards the owner every time they get behind the wheel.”
Toyota designers crafted a clean, modern design for the Prius that expresses its sleek, exciting character. Built on Toyota’s second generation TNGA-C platform, Prius has a low stance that merges dynamic style with impressive efficiency, while the low roofline and rear flares contribute to its futuristic look. The low centre of gravity and large, 19-inch alloy wheels broadcast an athletic spirit that makes the Prius seem poised to pounce.
Inside, the Prius invites up to five adults to a high-tech, modern cabin featuring soft-touch materials and smart design choices. Drivers will appreciate the nimble yet comfortable driving position, with excellent forward sightlines, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel. A 60/40 split fold-down rear seat opens up a world of cargo-carrying possibilities.
Under the hood, a 5th generation Toyota hybrid powertrain provides the Prius with plenty of power and impressive efficiency. This system consists of a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder engine, a motor-generator system, and a continuously variable transmission. This hybrid-electric powertrain generates 196 system horsepower and gives Prius a 0-100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds.
All 2025 Prius models feature an electronic on-demand AWD system, employing a motor to drive the rear wheels. This contributes to driving stability under a range of road and weather conditions, while contributing to efficiency. The Prius achieves an impressive fuel efficiency rating of 4.8L/100km city/highway combined. Meantime, a Drive Mode Select system with Normal, Eco, and Sport settings allows the driver to adjust the powertrain, steering, and air conditioning controls to a variety of driving styles and conditions.
Every Prius features the Toyota Multimedia system – a bundle of smart connectivity technologies that keeps drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. The system integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s newest interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice.
Every Prius also comes with an impressive package of safety features headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 –Toyota’s suite of active safety technologies and capabilities that supports driver awareness and decision making to help reduce the potential for accidents. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, a backup camera, eight airbags, the Blind Spot Monitor with Safe Exit Assist, and more.
