Record Electrified Vehicle Sales Power Toyota Canada Inc. to Record 2024

TORONTO, January 3, 2025 – Seeing very strong demand for its electrified vehicles, Toyota Canada Inc.’s (TCI) positive sales momentum continued for 2024, pushing the company to an all-time vehicles sales record of 238,933 vehicles sold.

Notably, 2024 also marked the 60^th year of Toyota’s presence in Canada. 

Record electrified vehicles sales continue to lead the way for both Toyota and Lexus

Electrified vehicles continued to lead the way for TCI in 2024, with 117,528 units sold, up 17.7% year over year, representing 49.2% of the company’s overall vehicle sales in 2024.

Toyota division sold a record 101,627 electrified vehicles in 2024, up 22.9% year over year, representing 48.6% of Toyota’s total sales for 2024.

Following its 2023 all-time record year, Lexus division sold 15,901 electrified vehicles in 2024, representing 53.5% of its total sales for 2024, down 7.3% year over year. This 2024 result is 1,255 units shy of last year’s record. 

Helped by record sales of bZ4X, RAV4 Prime and Lexus NX 450h+, a record total of 26,411 Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEV, comprising of EV, PHEV and FCEV) units were among the electrified Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold during 2024, up 59.1% year over year.

Q4 was a record quarter for TCI’s electrified vehicles sales with 32,541 units sold, up 31.4% year over year, and representing 55.8% of the company’s overall sales in the quarter.

Sales momentum for TCI’s electrified vehicles is expected to continue in 2025 with strong demand for the battery-electric Lexus RZ and Toyota bZ4X, for the RAV4 Prime and Prius Prime plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and rapidly growing electrified vehicles sales.

Strong momentum heading into 2025

TCI’s December sales accounted for 19,440 units sold, up 19.8% from December 2023.

Toyota division sold 17,073 units in December, up 20.6% from December 2023, setting a December sales record, for a total of 209,229 units sold in 2024, up 6.6% from 2023 and its second-best year ever in Canada.

Lexus division sold 2,367 units sold in December, up 13.8% from December 2023, setting a December sales record. Lexus ended 2024 as its second-best year ever in Canada with 29,704 units sold, down 4.8% from its record 2023 year.

The best-selling non-pick-up-truck (RAV4)

With 77,556 units sold in 2024, the Toyota RAV4 reached a record year and remains the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada.

Certain Toyota and Lexus models registered significant overall sales in 2024, including:

• Toyota RAV4 (77,556 units, up 3.8% year over year (YOY) – annual record & best-selling non-pick-up-truck in Canada). This includes 12,392 units for the RAV4 Prime (up 51.0% YOY)
• Toyota bZ4X (up 60.8% YOY – annual record)
• Toyota Prius Family (up 59.3% YOY)
• Toyota Corolla Cross (up 28.2% YOY – annual record)
• Toyota Tundra (up 20.4% YOY – annual record)
• Toyota GR86 (up 93.5% YOY)
• Toyota Camry Hybrid (up 32.1% YOY)
• Toyota Sequoia Hybrid (up 55.9% YOY)
• Toyota Sienna Hybrid (up 164.2% YOY)
• Lexus LS (up 12.0% YOY)
• Lexus UX Hybrid (up 4.6% YOY)
• Lexus NX PHEV (up 27.9% YOY – annual record)
• Lexus RX PHEV (up 621.7% YOY – annual record)
• Lexus GX (up 6.1% YOY)

Toyota vehicles assembled in Canada in high demand

The RAV4, which remains for 2024 the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada and reached record sales in 2024, is assembled in Canada. Also assembled in Canada, the Lexus NX and Lexus RX reached strong yearly sales.

Responding to the needs of Canadian consumers, 59.8% of Lexus vehicles sold in Canada last year were assembled in Canada.

With 533,566 vehicles assembled during 2024, an increase of nearly 8,000 units over 2023, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada continues to be Canada’s largest automotive manufacturer.
