TORONTO, October 3, 2025 – Toyota’s all-electric SUV stands out from the crowded battery-electric vehicle landscape. With its modern styling and impressive performance, backed by Toyota’s industry leading experience in electrified vehicle design and engineering plus its reputation for quality and reliability, it’s the BEV that makes sense for today’s lifestyles. For 2026, the Toyota bZ is better than ever, with more power, increased range, easier charging, and a long list of upgrades on all models.

“The newly-updated Toyota bZ makes an all-electric vehicle a compelling choice for an even greater number of drivers – offering Canadians the styling, performance, safety, quality, and amenities that only Toyota can deliver, backed by our industry-leading expertise in powertrain electrification and our top-rated dealer experience,” said Robert Tsang, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “With so many improvements for 2026, the bZ also demonstrates our unwavering determination to offer Canadians the power of choice – including the choice of multiple powertrain options, each designed to excel in the real world.”

The upgrades for 2026 start with the name – shortened from bZ4X to bZ – and a refreshed exterior design. The new bZ remains true to its distinctive aesthetic, exhibiting original style that stands out from the crowd. With no need for a radiator and grille, the bZ features a low hood that maximizes forward visibility, enhanced for this year with subtle refinements to the front fascia and lighting elements. Slim LED accent lights integrate into the sleek, hammerhead front end. Redesigned front overfenders enhance the bZ’s curbside presence with newly available colour-matched molding. The side profile is balanced and sleek, with a long wheelbase, dynamic character lines, and a flowing silhouette. The rear emphasizes the bZ’s powerful stance while putting focus on the corners and tail lamps. Notable exterior features include auto-levelling LED headlamps, LED rear combination lamps, rain-, mist-, and moisture-sensing wipers with deicers, and power-adjustable and heated exterior mirrors with puddle lights.

The bZ’s two XLE grades are available in a choice of five body colours, each with a black interior. The Limited grade is available in nine body colours with a black interior – including four two-tone paint schemes featuring black roofs. The Limited grade is also offered in one two-tone Black over Blueprint paint scheme featuring a light grey interior.

Inside, the bZ features an extra-wide interior that welcomes up to five adults to a spacious, quiet, and relaxing cabin. Comfort is assured – with legroom equivalent to that in a large sedan for all passengers, as well as copious side-to-side space in the rear seat. Meantime, stowing the 60/40 split folding rear seat, the bZ can hold an impressive amount of cargo. Premium finishes and soft-touch materials elevate the style and comfort. For 2026, Toyota designers revised and optimized the console layout, adding two wireless phone charging docks and a slimmed-down dashboard featuring a larger, 14-inch Toyota Multimedia system touchscreen. All models are equipped with a long list of standard features – including a heated, Softex-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control with an automatic air circulation control system, front centre console box, and a seven-inch full-colour LCD multi-information display. To enhance the cabin, every bZ is fitted with a 64-colour, customizable ambient lighting system.

While Toyota designers refined the exterior and interior styling, Toyota engineers enhanced performance, range, and charging – making the new bZ even more fun to drive and more practical for every journey.

The upgrades start with a larger lithium-ion battery for the all-wheel-drive models, featuring a higher total capacity of up to 77 kWh. This boosts the manufacturer-estimated range by up to 25 percent, to 468 kilometers between charges for the XLE AWD grade. Limited models now feature a 436-kilometer range, while the XLE front-wheel-drive model features a 57.7-kWh battery for a 380-kilometer range.

For 2026, Toyota engineers also fitted all bZ models with a North American Charging System (NACS) DC charging port, unlocking access to thousands of high-speed charging stations across the country. Under ideal conditions, when using DC fast charging, this system is capable of boosting the bZ from 10 percent to 80 percent battery charge in around 30 minutes. Other standard modes include Level One and Level Two AC charging with a higher capacity 11-kW onboard AC charger (up from a 7-kW charger on the previous generation models). All models are equipped with a dual-voltage charging cable plus a new battery pre-conditioning system and a battery thermal management system, which enable faster charging in colder conditions.

Toyota engineers also upgraded the bZ’s eAxles. These compact, lightweight, and energy-efficient components now use silicon carbide semiconductors to help deliver high power output. For AWD models, output increases by 50 percent to 338 combined system horsepower (hp), enabling the bZ AWD models to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 5.1 seconds. New steering wheel-mounted paddle shifter-style controls activate and adjust regenerative braking to tailor the system to individual driving preferences.

All bZ all-wheel-drive grades feature the X-MODE system, which allows the driver to optimize power delivery and brake control depending on road conditions. Off-road performance is enhanced with Grip Control, which modulates power to minimize slipping on rough surfaces.

Every 2026 bZ is a technology showcase – headlined by the Toyota Multimedia system. This bundle of smart connectivity technologies helps keep drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. Toyota Multimedia integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice. Many functions may be controlled via the touch screen via the same gestures used on mobile phone screens. All models feature the full package of Toyota connected services – including Service Connect, Safety Connect, Remote Connect, and Drive Connect – plus a new 14-inch screen. Other standard technology features include three USB charging ports, 15-watt dual wireless phone charging docks, and a 1,500-watt A/C outlet with deck plug.

Every bZ also comes with an impressive package of safety features headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 – Toyota’s powerful and proven suite of active safety technologies and capabilities that supports driver awareness and decision making to help reduce the potential for accidents. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, the Blind Spot Monitor system with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Emergency Driving Stop System, Lane Keeping Assist, a backup camera with back guidance monitor, and eight airbags.
