TORONTO, January 26, 2025 – What’s your adventure? Wherever life takes you, the Toyota 4Runner is the iconic, authentic SUV that combines capability, versatility, and style. Available in nine model and trim configurations built around gas and hybrid-electric powertrains, every 4Runner also features advanced connectivity technologies and Toyota’s impressive safety systems.

“The 2026 Toyota 4Runner builds on this model’s incredible legacy as an adventure-enabler, while offering Canadians incredible choices, features, and style. It’s a versatile and authentic body-on-frame SUV that respects its heritage while embracing the future,” said Robert Tsang, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “As the only full-line automaker, Toyota remains committed to offering vehicles for every need and desire. The 2026 4Runner, offered with gas or hybrid-electric powertrains, is ready to transport family, friends, and gear to wherever the adventure leads.”

Performance powers adventures – especially when life heads beyond the pavement. That’s why engineers crafted every 2026 4Runner with the capability to tackle rough terrain. As the same time, adventures also happen in town, so 4Runner also features sophisticated on-road manners. It all starts with the foundation – Toyota’s tough TNGA-F global truck platform, which 4Runner shares with Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra, and Sequoia. This platform boosts strength, improves ride comfort, and enhances handling. To provide choice based on each driver’s favourite types of adventures, Toyota engineers then fitted this foundation with a range of distinctive powertrains:

  • i-FORCE equipped 4Runners are fitted with a 2.4L four-cylinder turbocharged gas engine and a choice of on-demand or full-time four-wheel-drive, depending on grade. This powertrain generates 278 peak horsepower and up to 317 lb-ft of torque, and has a 6,000 lbs. (2,722 kg) towing rating.
  • For truly impressive high-torque performance, 4Runner i-FORCE MAX hybrid models feature a hybrid-electric powertrain built around the 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This powertrain generates 326 system horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. These models feature either on-demand or full-time four-wheel-drive, and a 5,800 lbs. (2,631 kg) towing rating.

The 4Runner broadcasts its powerful capability through a dynamic style that gives it iconic presence. The body is lean and rides on big wheels to convey a rugged athleticism that expresses the core of 4Runner’s identity. Rugged with a purpose, the 4Runner features wrap-over quarter glass – a nod to its heritage – as well as the popular roll-down rear window.

Inside, Toyota designers created a 4Runner cabin that emphasizes functionality and ease of operation, while still providing comfort and amenities. Toyota offers Canadians a choice of two cabin configurations, which vary by grade: three-row models accommodate up to seven adults, while two-row models seat up to five. Each model features grade specific detailing and colour options. With up to 2,554 litres (90.2 cubic feet) of cargo capacity available behind the front row seats, the 4Runner can carry the gear for any adventure.

Every 4Runner is a technology showcase, starting with the Toyota Multimedia system – a bundle of smart connectivity technologies that keep drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. Toyota Multimedia integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s newest interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice. Many functions may be controlled via the touch screen via the same gestures used on mobile phone screens. Other technology features include touchscreen display audio systems, a multi-information display for the driver, and the Toyota Smart Key System with Push Button Start.

As a Toyota, every 4Runner also comes with an impressive package of safety features headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 – Toyota’s bundle of active safety technologies and capabilities that supports driver awareness and decision making to help reduce the potential for accidents. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, a backup camera with Back Guide Monitor and rear camera washer, eight airbags, the Blind Spot Monitor System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and an anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer.
