The 2009 Tundra adds new i-FORCE Editions to the North American designed and built work-ready full-size pick-up truck

Canadians can choose from a 4.7L V8, or the rugged capability of Tundra’s 5.7L V8. Those who need to move plywood or drywall will love the long bed’s ability to absorb 4x8 sheet stock, and transporting a crew has never been easier with cabs that seat 3, 5 or 6 people. Meanwhile, payload and towing capabilities of up to 1,900 lbs and 10,500 lbs respectively mean that with a Tundra there’s no need to leave anything behind.

What’s more, every 2009 Tundra is generously equipped with a suite of standard features that make this a capable member of any team. The 2009 Toyota Tundra 4x2 is now on sale across Canada. The Tundra 4x2 Regular Cab starts at a suggested price of $23,855 for the 4.7L engine and $28,210 for the 5.7L engine. The Tundra 4x2 Double Cab starts at a suggested price of $30,610 for the 4.7L model, and $34,705 for those equipped with the 5.7L engine and long cargo bed. The Tundra 4x2 CrewMax starts at $36,275 for the SR5 model, and $46,295 for the Limited model.

Power and performance

To make sure the Tundra is ready when needed, both engines are fitted with heavy-duty batteries, alternators, heaters, and starters featuring crank hold electronic starter control. Transmissions are sequential shift models featuring overdrive, a lock-up torque converter, transmission cooler, and automatic transmission fluid warmer.

Handling and control

All 2009 Toyota Tundra 4x2 models feature a suspension system designed with durability and comfort in mind. The double-wishbone front suspension employs gas shock absorbers, coil springs and a stabilizer bar, while the rear suspension is fitted with heavy-duty multi-leaf springs and bias-mounted gas shock absorbers. On some models, upgrade packages feature heavy-duty Bilstein shock absorbers for even greater control and stability, precise handling and remarkable comfort. In addition, all Tundra models are equipped with an auto limited slip rear differential and Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC) on 4x2 models or Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) on 4x4 models.

One-touch 4WD makes it easy to switch between driving modes on 4x4 models, while rack and pinion power steering adds comfort and control on both 4x2 and 4x4 models.

Safety and security

VVT-i is a Toyota engine system that continually varies the intake valve timing to deliver optimatal valve timing for a full range of driving conditions. Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i)

The principle behind ETCS-i – sometimes called “drive-by-wire” – is used on all modern racing cars. When the driver depresses the accelerator, the engine instantaneously receives an electronic signal demanding more power. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)

(All models)

Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an active safety system that automatically helps to control a vehicle when it starts to slide – for example, when trying to turn at too high a speed. VSC compares driver braking and steering commands to the vehicle’s actual performance then activates individual brakes as needed and adjusts the throttle setting to help maintain stability and keep the vehicle on course.

Active Traction Control (A-TRAC)

A version of Toyota’s Traction Control system designed specifically for 4WD models, Toyota’s Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) system helps the vehicle maintain traction when accelerating in slippery conditions. It also engages when the available grip differs from one side of the vehicle to the other, such as when two wheels are on a gravel or grass verge. When drive wheels begin to slip, A-TRAC automatically adjusts engine power to keep the wheels from losing traction. 

Antilock Braking System (ABS)

Toyota’s Antilock Braking System (ABS) uses sensors to monitor speed, traction, vehicle load and the driver’s applied brake force. The ABS then controls brake applications to minimize wheel lock-up, reducing the chance of the vehicle skidding. The result is shorter stopping distances on wet, gravely, sandy or other surfaces where traction is questionable. 

Brake Assist (BA)

Toyota’s Brake Assist (BA) is a system designed to assist the driver during emergency braking by supplementing the braking power applied if the driver has not pushed hard enough on the pedal in an emergency braking situation. It works in conjunction with ABS to minimize lock-up during emergency situations.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

Toyota’s Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) system minimizes stopping distances by maximizing the braking power applied to those wheels that have the best grip. This system also automatically adjusts the fore/aft brake balance according to vehicle load, and the right/left brake balance if brakes are applied during cornering.
