2009 TOYOTA CAMRY – PRODUCT DETAIL
Four or six? A choice of engines
The 2009 Toyota Camry is offered with a choice of two engines. The LE and SE models are equipped with Toyota’s proven 2.4 litre four-cylinder engine featuring 16 valves, balance shafts, variable valve timing with intelligence and a stainless steel exhaust system. This compact but powerful four-cylinder engine delivers up to 158HP @ 6,000 RPM and up to 161lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 RPM.
The V6 Camry models (LE V6, SE V6 and XLE V6) are fitted with a powerful yet efficient 3.5 litre V6 with 24 valves, dual variable valve timing with intelligence (on both the intake and exhaust cams), a variable induction system and acoustic control induction system, and a dual stainless steel exhaust. The 3.5 litre V6 produces up to 268HP @ 6,200 RPM and up to 248lb-ft of torque @ 4,700 RPM.
Both engines feature lightweight aluminum alloy blocks, dual overhead cams, sequential multi-port fuel injection, and an electronic throttle control system with intelligence. Regardless of engine size, all 2009 Camry models qualify as emissions-friendly Tier 2 Bin 5 vehicles.
The Camry SE is standard-equipped with a five-speed manual transmission that gives it a fuel efficiency of 9.6L/100km in the city and 6.4L/100km on the highway.
The Camry LE and Camry SE are fitted with a five speed automatic electronically controlled transmission with overdrive. This engine-transmission combination has a fuel efficiency rating of 9.5L/100km city and 6.2L/100km highway.
All V6 Camry models are standard equipped with a six-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission with overdrive and sequential multi-mode shifters for manual-like operation. This engine-transmission combination has a fuel efficiency rating of 10.7L/100km city and 7.0L/100km highway.
All 2009 Camry models deliver the driving confidence of front-wheel drive. In addition, Toyota’s Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control technologies are available on the Camry LE, and – new for 2009 – now fitted as standard equipment on all other models.
All Camry models have suspensions designed for ride comfort with Macpherson gas struts, coil springs and stabilizer bars fitted front and rear. Rear suspensions on all models are independent, dual-link designs, and front and rear suspensions on the SE and SE V6 models are sport tuned.
Braking power is plentiful, thanks to front ventilated discs and rear disc brakes, reinforced with a full suite of braking technologies including Toyota’s Antilock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and Brake Assist.
